Things to Do Labor Day Weekend

Summer is winding down, which means it’s time to plan your Labor Day weekend in SoIN! Enjoy music from Justin Miller at Huber’s Orchard & Winery, grab your tickets for a local performance, or stop by Georgetown’s 7th annual Whistle Stop Showcase. Attend a free program at Falls of the Ohio State Park or celebrate the end of summer at Charlestown Family Activities Park.

International Underground Railroad Month

September marks International Underground Railroad month, which celebrates the network of people and places that played a role in helping people escape from slavery. September was chosen to represent International Underground Railroad Month as it is the month that Frederick Douglass and Harriet Tubman, two of the most well known freedom seekers, escaped slavery.

This September, join Southern Indiana attractions, including the Carnegie Center for Art & History and Town Clock Church, as they host exhibits and events commemorating the Underground Railroad.

Fall Fun in Southern Indiana

Head across the river to Louisville this September to rock out with major acts at the Kentucky Expo Center! Bourbon & Beyond is September 14 – 17 featuring acts such as Train, The Killers, Bruno Mars and more. Louder than Life is September 21 – 24 featuring acts such as Foo Fighters, Godsmack, Green Day and more.

The Monarch Festival at MountFest on September 23 is a FREE event featuring an immersive butterfly experience, some of the area’s most talented artists, mouth-watering food trucks, a beer & wine garden, children’s activities and bouncy houses, and music. All the fun takes place in one of Southern Indiana’s most picturesque venues, Mount Saint Francis.

The Southern Indiana Renaissance Faire is a fairy tale fantasy come to life at the 15th century-style Birdsell Castle in Charlestown, Indiana. Stroll through the village filled with renaissance entertainment, food and drink and a unique artisan market October 14 & 15 and 21 & 22. 

Join the Vintage Fire Museum at their Spring Street location in Jeffersonville for a 9/11 Memorial honoring the sacrifices made by firefighters and others who lost their lives on 9/11. The free event on September 10 includes a special display and a short program.

Get your walking shoes ready for the area’s most mouthwatering stroll! Develop New Albany’s Taco Walk returns on September 30. Indulge in a variety of flavors, from classic carne asada to zesty vegetarian options. Get your tickets for this taco-filled adventure!

Head to the Jeffersonville RiverStage on September 9 to enjoy Rock On Water, a FREE music festival featuring Christian acts Disciple, Honor & Glory, Chaotic Resemblance, Hush Harbor, B-Wade and John Tibbs. 

The public is invited to the Annual Muster at the Vintage Fire Museum in Jeffersonville on September 23 – a traditional celebration in which firefighters come together to display their equipment and to show their special skills.

Rediscover the Falls of the Ohio on September 23 as Spectre Jones and Laura Elliott are joined by The Highlanders for Rock the Rocks, a one-of-a-kind concert atop the 390-million-year-old fossil beds. Funds raised benefit the Falls of the Ohio Foundation.

Cruise your way to Howard Steamboat Museum on September 9 for the 6th Annual Car Show Fundraiser. Enjoy live music provided by CMN Trio, food, a raffle, silent auction, 50/50 drawing, and lots more while you peruse the amazing cars. Craft beer, craft seltzer, and wine will be available for purchase through Pearl Street Taphouse.
