FAQ: Who should be screened and trained under Plan to Protect®?

A: Plan to Protect® believes is it is better to screen than not to screen.  The steps of recruiting and screening we recommend include: a six month waiting period, a position description, an application, an interview, reference checks, Criminal Record Checks, and Training. This chart will be a helpful guide on who to do a Criminal Record Check on.

Blog: Let's Talk
Hi everyone, my name is Victoria and I'm the Director of Training at Plan to Protect®...Today, I really wanted to open up and share a little bit more about myself.  Social media gives you a window into someone's life. You can spend so much time listening to someone, hearing about their life or seeing photos of them that you think you know them. Feel like you're friends.
But...social networking sites are a curated glimpse at someone's life. It's a small piece of the puzzle that makes up the whole.
Perhaps you've heard me on our webinars; or chatted with me over the phone or via email; or maybe we've even met at exhibit or conference. You probably would have no idea that I really struggle with an anxiety disorder.

Special Interest Webinar: Mental Health Protection
FREE WEBINAR
According to the World Health Organization, "one in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disabilities worldwide. Treatments are available, but nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help..." Are people with mental health concerns at higher risk of abuse or harm? How can we protect individuals struggling with mental health concerns? How can we prepare? Let's Plan to Protect® those with mental health concerns!

This webinar is designed to raise awareness of the vulnerability of individuals struggling with mental health concerns and to reduce the stigma of discrimination and neglect. This webinar is designed for all organizations who work with the vulnerable sector. Victoria Bissell, OCT. Director of Training at Plan to Protect®, will share her personal story of struggling with Agoraphobia and share how organizations can protect those with mental health concerns. Are people with mental health
considered vulnerable?

According to the World Health Organization, "People with mental and psycho social disabilities are a vulnerable group as a result of the way they are treated by society. They are subjected to stigma and discrimination on a daily basis, and they experience extremely high rates of physical and sexual victimization. Frequently, people with mental disabilities encounter restrictions in the exercise of their political and civil rights, and in their ability to participate in public affairs. They also are restricted in their ability to access essential health and social care, including emergency relief services. Most people with mental disabilities face disproportionate barriers in attending school and finding employment. As a result of all these factors, people with mental disability are much more likely to experience disability and die prematurely, compared with the general population."
