World-class museum exhibitions

This summer, the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History will present its newest traveling exhibition, “Life in One Cubic Foot.”

Organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service in collaboration with the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History, this remarkable showcase invites visitors to delve into the intricate web of life that exists within a single cubic foot of land or water—a biocube. A biocube is a 1-by-1-by-1-foot framed cube that allows organisms from the surrounding environment to enter and pass through. These biocubes were strategically placed in diverse ecosystems across the globe, capturing life forms—both known and unknown—over a 24-hour period. From the coral reefs of French Polynesia to the alien mid-water ocean off the coast of California, “Life in One Cubic Foot” reveals the astonishing diversity of nature.

The exhibit closes Aug. 4.

The museum is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m.

The Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art will display "Un/Natural Selections: Wildlife in Contemporary Art" through Sept. 22.  Organized by the National Museum of Wildlife Art, this exhibition considers the diverse ways contemporary artists use animal imagery to address humanity’s interconnectedness with the natural world. This exhibition offers a wide range of works in a variety of media. The National Museum of Wildlife Art of the United States is one of the few museums in the nation to focus entirely on the art of wildlife. It is in our mission to impart knowledge about and appreciation for humanity’s relationship with wildlife through art, but the definitions and understandings of wildlife art can vary greatly depending upon your perspective and level of engagement with nature. The definition and look of wildlife art is expanding beyond the realistic depictions of wildlife in their natural habitats. Increasingly, museums are using their permanent collections in the creation of exhibitions that relevantly address our ever-changing society and environment.

The museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1-5 p.m. Admission is complimentary.
