Why the Older Americans Act Matters

Many people have never heard of the Older Americans Act, but they may rely on services it helps support every day.

From caregiver support and wellness programs to nutrition services, information and assistance, and help at home, Older Americans Act funding supports services that help older adults remain independent and connected to their communities.

Senior Resources continues to advocate for strong funding for these programs, but legislators also need to hear from the people whose lives are affected by them.

Your voice matters. Contact your members of Congress and let them know why services for older adults and caregivers deserve continued support.

Every Minute Matters

When a vulnerable adult goes missing, every minute counts.

Michigan's new statewide Silver Alert system will help quickly notify the public when a qualifying senior or vulnerable adult is reported missing. The system brings these alerts directly to wireless devices, giving community members an opportunity to help locate someone before it is too late.

For families caring for someone living with dementia or another cognitive condition, the new system provides an important additional tool to help bring a missing loved one safely home.

This new law is an example of how advocacy can lead to meaningful change. Your voice matters, and legislators need to hear from you about the issues affecting older adults and caregivers in our communities.
