DeKalb County Sanitation Updates
- In the summer, collection crews pick up trash and recycling early in the morning, to avoid the heat of mid-day. Please make sure bins are out extra early this summer, to avoid missed pickups!
- Mowing crews are working extra hours; please be sure to give them plenty of space and be patient as they work to mow our Right-of-Ways
-
See Sanitation's new video for updates on our residential recycling program.

March into a Cleaner Tomorrow - The Great American Cleanup!
The DeKalb County Beautification Unit is hosting the March into a Cleaner Tomorrow campaign! This campaign highlights two initiatives designed to inspire community action: Global Recycling Day (March 18), and the Great American Cleanup!
Great American Cleanup - Thursday, March 20 - Saturday, June 21, 2025
We invite all residents, organizations, and community groups to join the challenge! Let’s see which Super District can collect the most litter. We’ll track the results by converting collected bags into pounds and ultimately tons of waste removed.
Together, we can create lasting change one bag at a time!
Click here to register and become part of the movement to Keep DeKalb Beautiful and Clean.

The week of June 17 is Waste & Recycling Workers Week! This is a great time to show your appreciation for the hard working waste and recycling workers who serve our community. Here are some ideas:
-
Download a printable Thank You eCard It’s easy! Print it out, fold it, tape it to the garbage can during the week of June 17 to say "thank you!"
-
Send an email to say, “Thank you.” It’s easy to complain when things are not done right. Consider contacting the Sanitation Department with a word of thanks and appreciation for all the weeks they do their job well!
sanitation@dekalbcountyga.gov
- Offer refreshments! Consider meeting your provider with a “thank you” treat. Perhaps a plate of cookies or a cold bottle of water.
- Join the Recycling Effort!
-
Let’s take some ownership for our garbage contributions. Consider ways you can reduce, recycle, and reuse the things being thrown in the garbage from your own home. Learn more HERE about how to recycle in DeKalb!
