BGCDA was awarded one of 28 21st Century Community Learning Center (CCLC) grants from the Virginia Department of Education. In partnership with Danville Public Schools, BGCDA will provide afterschool programs to 50 youth at Woodrow Wilson Intermediate School beginning early fall. This program will provide members with focused academic tutoring in the areas of reading and math, as well as, BGCDA enrichment programming focused on building character, leadership skills and healthy lifestyles. As part of the collaboration, additional partners will provide programming to both members and parents.Partners include Danville Science Center, Firefly Yoga, Danville Police Department, Urban Line Dance, UVA Cancer Center, Danville Pittsylvania Community Services and Danville 4-H.
“We are both thrilled and grateful about the opportunity to bring these programs directly into Woodrow Wilson Intermediate School,” said Superintendent Stanley B. Jones. “BGCDA has a significant track record in providing services to students that are impactful in producing productive, responsible, and caring citizens.
