U.S. Conference of Mayors Recognizes Plano's Financial Literacy Program
Financial success isn't just about making money, it's also about keeping the money we make. Last week the United States Conference of Mayors and Waste Management recognized the Plano Financial Literacy Program with the First Place 2019 Large City Livability Award. This program has been quietly empowering Plano residents of all ages to make smarter money decisions through three unique vehicles:
  • Financial literacy messaging, classes, activities and exhibits provided by the Plano Public Library
  • Plano Mayor's Summer Internship Program
  • Plano Families First Resource and Job Fair

Since March 2018, the Plano Public Library has led this initiative by teaching teens money management through "The Game of Life" and younger children through art, Recycled Money and Funding Your Fido. Older adults have learned how to navigate Medicare and Social Security benefits, credit scores, avoid fraud and build wealth. Our Library also partnered with Collin College to present a financial capability workshop as part of a job readiness program.

Plano was one of 10 cities presented the award during the City Livability Luncheon.
