Bridge and Neighborhood Concrete Repairs Ahead

Major items approved during the Jan. 8 City Council Meeting were:

Self-Unloading Belt Trailers

The City’s composting operations, Texas Pure Products, will be replacing four self-unloading belt trailers for just under $550,000. The scheduled equipment replacements are funded by Capital Outlays for FY2021-22 and FY2023-24. These trailers haul ground feedstock from the Custer Road Transfer Station to the 121 Regional Composting Facility and finished compost and mulches to commercial customers.

Residential Concrete Pavement Repair Zone G4 North

The $4.3 million project in residential Zone G4 North repairs include:

  • 25,000 square yards of residential concrete street and alley
  • 80,000 square feet of sidewalk
  • 235 barrier-free ramps

Larger areas of repair, like this project, are bid as separate contracts as a neighborhood zone rehabilitation project can cover several miles of infrastructure. Currently sufficient yard/storage space, staff space and equipment are not available for City staff to perform larger pavement rehabilitation projects.

If the areas located inside of Residential Zone G4 North are not repaired, maintenance and replacement costs will increase in the future. Plus, existing ADA compliance issues will not be resolved, leaving pedestrian facilities in an unsafe condition.

Bridge Repairs Phase IV Construction Plans

Almost $350,000 will be spent on professional engineering services for the Bridge Repairs Phase IV construction plans. This project addresses items found during the bi-annual Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) bridge inspection. Twenty Plano bridges need:

  • Maintenance
  • Deck repairs
  • Channel protection
  • Erosion mitigation
  • Structural improvements
  • Rail repainting

The next regular City Council meeting is Monday, Jan. 22 at 7 pm. The agenda becomes available after 5 pm on the Wednesday leading up to the meeting. Watch the meeting live on Facebook, YouTube or PlanoTV.org

Speed Limit 45 street sign with a blue sky and puffy white cloud background

Slow to 45 MPH on North Preston Road

Legacy Drive through Sam Rayburn Tollway

Effective now

Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently replaced the 55-mph speed limit signs with 45-mph signs. The new speed limit applies to traffic in both directions. Safety concerns prompted a study that revealed the need to decrease the speed. The original limit had been in place for 35 years. On Sept. 26, Plano City Council approved the speed limit change by law.
