Get Out and Enjoy the Great Outdoors During Park and Recreation Month
Celebrate Park and Recreation Month this July. If there is one place for people of all ages, abilities and identities to live healthier lifestyles, understand nature and preserve the environment, it is Plano Parks & Recreation. Their programs, special events and services make us a stronger and more connected community. Join us for exciting Park and Recreation Month activities

We thank our park and recreation team for all they do every day to make Plano a better place. They’ve had a record year:

  • In May, the Trust for Public Lands 2022 ParkScore Index ranked Plano first in Texas and 15th in the nation.

  • In June, the Secretary of the Interior designated Bob Woodruff and Oak Point Park Nature Preserve Trails as national trails. They joined Bluebonnet and Chisholm trails as part of the National Trail System

  • Also in June, the City of Plano was announced as a finalist for the 2022 Gold Medal Awards for Parks and Recreation. We find out in September if we win and it will be our fifth Gold Medal award.

Keep Your Home Clean and Rodent Free
Now is a great time to ensure your neighborhood is clean. Maintain a tidy area to reduce the risk of rats and other rodents with these tips.

  • Dispose of trash properly. Rats like to rummage and feed on discarded food waste. Ensure your trash is disposed of in the right place.

  • Secure your containers. Make sure your trash and recycling containers are not damaged and the lid closes completely after disposing of trash. Open containers are a food source for rats and other animals.

  • Don’t leave food outside. Leaving pet food outside for extended periods attracts animals.

  • Inspect your home for animals. Small rats only need an opening the size of a quarter to burrow inside. Inspect your walls and attic space for openings and small animals. Openings are commonly found on eaves, around windows and in landscaping around concrete pads and sheds.

  • Inspect your yard for animals. Rats and mice use gaps between lumber piles, plastic containers and other materials as shelter. Bring those items inside or dispose of them. Firewood stacked outside should be kept at least 12 inches off the ground to prevent animals from sheltering in the stack.

  • Check your faucets. Ensure leaky faucets are repaired and your yard is not overwatered. This helps to keep rats from sheltering nearby.

Thank you for doing your part to keep your neighborhood safe and clean.
