Welcome Back to the Council Chambers

Plano City Council Sen. Florence Shapiro Mayor Muns and City Manager Mark Israelson cut a blue ribbon for the grand reopening of Plano's Council Chambers

The Senator Florence Shapiro Council Chambers reopened on Nov. 25 with a ribbon-cutting ceremony after being closed for eight months. The $5.5 million renovation was approved by voters in the 2021 Bond Election. This was the biggest update to the Plano Municipal Center since it was built in 1989.

While the Chambers were closed for construction, City Council and Planning & Zoning Commission meetings were held at Davis Library. Starting Monday, Dec. 2, all meetings will return to the Chambers beginning with the Planning & Zoning Commission.

The updates were made to:

  • Make it easier to use: Barriers were removed so it’s accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities.

  • Improve sound and video: New technology was added to make it easier to hear and see what’s happening.

  • Make it safer: Changes were made to keep everyone more secure.

Thank you for your patience during construction. We hope you enjoy the improved space!
