Become a Pen Pal and Help Texans Stay Connected
Help residents and patients at state-supported living centers and state hospitals across Texas stay connected with their communities during the pandemic. Residents of living centers include people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and patients of state hospitals include people with mental health issues. Socialization is an important part of maintaining good mental health. Due to COVID-19, group activities, communal dining and visits with relatives and volunteers have been limited to prevent the spread of the virus. Encouraging letters and cards make a world of difference! Sign up to participate with an email to VolunteerHHSC@hhsc.state.tx.us .

All American 4th Fireworks Shot Higher in the Sky
Plano's All American 4th is still happening just not our usual way. We’ve moved the fireworks to higher ground thanks to Lavon Farms near Plano Event Center. The pyrotechnics will be shot at a higher altitude – nearly twice as high as ever before. As a result, you’ll be able to see the fireworks from a mile away! Watch from your backyard, a parking lot or online.

We’ve even mapped out the best places to see the fireworks . Our only ask is that you practice a little extra care by keeping a safe distance from other Planoites enjoying the show.

You can also go to the Plano Arts & Event Facebook page to watch the show online.

As always, the display will be set to music on radio station 97.5 KLAK . So grab a spot and look to the sky on Saturday, July 4 at 9:30 p.m.
Meeting Schedules Shift in July
Planning & Zoning Commission does not meet again until Monday, July 20. Their meetings continue to be by videoconference. If you would like to comment on a specific item, instructions on how to comment are available on that meeting’s agenda .

City Council meets twice in July as required by the City’s bylaws but both meetings are the last week of July: Monday, July 27 at 7 p.m. and Wednesday, July 29 at 5 p.m. At the July 29 meeting, City Manager Mark Israelson presents the 2020-21 Recommended Budget and Community Investment Program (CIP). The updated Water & Sewer Revenue model and revised water and sewer rates will also be discussed at the meeting. These documents are available on the City website shortly after the meeting. A budget schedule is posted with these documents to allow you the opportunity to provide input. The budget and CIP are not official until City Council votes in September. They serve as our guiding financial tools from Oct. 1 through Sept. 30 each fiscal year. To provide input on a specific item, follow the instructions on the meeting agenda .

In August, Council Meetings resume the schedule of the second and fourth Mondays with the regular session beginning at 7 p.m. As always, you can watch Council Meetings live on planotv.org ; on television at Spectrum channel 16, Frontier FIOS channels 30 and 31, and AT&T U-verse channel 99 (choose Plano); or on the City’s Facebook page . Council Meetings are available at planotv.org for on-demand viewing normally within 24-hours.
