Apply for Mayor's Summer Internships by March 1
Are you a high school student who wants to beef up your college applications? Consider applying for the Plano Mayor's Summer Internship program. Students who will be juniors or seniors in fall 2019 are invited to apply. Applications must be received by Friday, March 1.

You must have at least a 3.0 grade point average, live in Plano and attend a Plano public high school or Hebron High School. The paid internships are 8-weeks long with 20-40 hours per week, June 10 through Aug. 2. All students must attend the all-day Intern Prep meeting on Saturday, March 23 to be eligible for the April 26 Job Fair.

Internship opportunities vary from government agencies to nonprofits and Plano businesses. If you are a business or nonprofit interested in hosting or sponsoring an intern , we'd love to hear from you.

Get your male cat neutered for 5 cents during Nickel Neutering on Tuesday, Feb. 26. We'll have appointments from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Plano Animal Shelter, 4028 W. Plano Pkwy. You are not required to live in Plano to take advantage of this special offer. Schedule a time for your cat by calling 972-769-4360.

  • Consider getting him microchipped for $10 at the same time.
  • Prepare to register your cat if you live in Plano and he's not already registered. City registration for each cat is only $10. It's $5 if the owner is a senior citizen or has proof of being low-income. Visit plano.gov/RegisterPet for details and to register online.
  • Know his numbers. Your cat must be at least 8 weeks old and weight at least 2 and 1/2 pounds for the procedure.
