Wildcat Way, 5 Intersection Projects and No Parking Approved

City Council members sit in a u-shaped dais.

The following items were approved as part of the Consent Agenda during the Oct. 28, 2024 City Council Meeting:

Intersection Improvements

These five Plano intersections will be improved for over $2.7 million combined:

  • Ohio Drive and Park Boulevard – Adds dual eastbound and westbound left turn lanes, eastbound right turn lane, pavement markings, signal poles and updates ramps.

  • Custer Road and USA Drive – Adds crosswalk in eastbound - westbound direction, signal poles, video detection and updates ramps.

  • Custer Road and Ridgeview Drive - Includes pavement markings, crosswalks, signal poles, and includes a shared project with the City of Allen to add a westbound right turn lane.

  • 18th Street and Jupiter Road - Updates ramps, crosswalks and signal poles.

  • Ventura Drive and Park Boulevard - Removes a portion of the median to extend the current left turn lane.

Name Change for Westside Drive

The official new name of Westside Drive is now Wildcat Way. This is the street that runs along Plano Senior High School. The only properties affected by address changes are owned by Plano Independent School District and the City of Plano. Go, Wildcats!

Huntington Drive Parking Changes

Huntington Drive is a 26-foot-wide residential street with a condominium complex on the east side and residential neighborhoods on the west side. When vehicles park along both sides of the street, it impedes the flow of traffic and sight distance of motorists. Homeowners supported the parking restriction. The City’s Code of Ordinances now has a no-parking zone along the west side of Huntington Drive.

The next regular City Council meeting is Monday, Nov. 11 at 7 pm. The agenda becomes available after 5 pm on the Wednesday before the meeting. Go to Plano.gov/Agenda for the meeting signup link.

Fall Back to the Once-a-Week Winter Watering Schedule

Morning freeze on the grass of a lawn

Lawns and outdoor plants require much less watering as we roll into colder temperatures. Friday, Nov. 1 marks the moment to dial back landscape watering and enjoy the water-use savings.

Whether you are a resident or a business, please shift to the winter watering schedule on Nov. 1. Limit sprinkler use to the once-a-week schedule based on the last digit of your house number:

  • Odd numbers – Tuesdays
  • Even numbers, zero and homeowner associations – Thursdays

Follow these guidelines too:

  • Turn off automatic sprinklers. Once cooler weather arrives, most grasses go dormant until spring, reducing your lawn's need for water. Subscribe to WaterMyYard for customized weekly watering recommendations.

  • Set your sprinklers to run between 10 am and 6 pm. Temperatures are generally warmer this time of day.

  • Don't plant cool-season grasses. Ryegrass and fescues require extra water during winter.

  • Avoid excessive water runoff and watering during rain, ice or snow. In Plano, runoff is prohibited because it leads to dangerous icing of streets and sidewalks.

  • Only water if your lawn needs it. Just because it is your day to water doesn't mean you must.

These guidelines apply until March 31, 2025. Learn more about the watering guidelines.

Share Input for the 5-Year Consolidated Plan of Housing & Community Needs

The City of Plano is developing its 2025-2029 Federal Consolidated Plan of Housing and Community Development Needs. Help us identify top priorities for using approximately $10 million in federal funds for housing, community development and supportive services for low-to-moderate income residents.

Your feedback will:

  • Identify unmet needs in the community.
  • Assist the City in setting priorities and designing effective strategies.
  • Help prioritize activities, programs and services for federal funding.

Attend one of these Community Meetings to provide feedback:

  • Monday, Nov. 11, 6 pm - Schimelpfenig Library, 5024 Custer Rd.
  • Wednesday, Nov. 13, 6 pm - Neighborhood Services building, 777 E. 15th St.
  • Thursday, Nov. 21, 6 pm - Plano Municipal Center, 1520 K Ave.

Federal Consolidated Plan Regulatory Requirement

The Consolidated Plan is designed to help states and local jurisdictions assess their affordable housing and community development needs and market conditions, and to make data-driven, place-based investment decisions.

The Consolidated Plan is carried out through Annual Action Plans. The Action Plan is a concise summary of the actions, activities, and federal and non-federal resources used each year to address the needs and goals identified by the Consolidated Plan.
