Swim assessments now required for learn to swim classes
Learning how to swim is both a fun and rewarding experience, providing life-saving abilities and lifelong skills that benefit one’s strength, coordination and overall self-esteem at any age. In order for us to better serve our patrons, free swim assessments are now required for ages 6 and up and who are new to the Plano Parks & Recreation system, American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim programs, or who have had years between previous classes. Participants will be in the water for approximately five minutes and tested on basic swim skills. (Participants who are not comfortable in the water independently do not need an assessment and should enroll in Level 1.) These assessments do not guarantee a registration spot for participants. Visit Plano Recreation Online and search "swim assessment" for a complete list of assessment dates and locations.

Ready, Set, Explore! Get into Plano’s parks for the Parks for Pollinators Bioblitz
The Parks for Pollinators Bioblitz is a national campaign that takes place the month of September to raise awareness of the current pollinator crisis. Organized by the National Recreation and Park Association, the project encourages local action to find and document pollinators and pollinator-friendly plants at local parks.
Using the iNaturalist app, participants take to Plano’s nature preserves (Oak Point and Arbor Hills) to find and identify as many species as possible. The result is a snapshot of the community’s biodiversity. Kids can also opt to use Seek to share their findings. This child-safe app developed by iNaturalist allows kids to discover the natural world by identifying plants and animals while earning badges along the way! Look for ants, bats, bees, beetles, birds, butterflies, flies, hummingbirds, moths, plants and wasps. For more information, visit the Parks for Pollinators web site.
