Plant-Based Party in the School Cafeteria!

This month, we brought our Celebration Tasting Stations to six Lemon Grove schools (K-8), to help promote the district's new and fully plant-based menu item, Teriyaki Tofu Lo Mein! In partnership with Lemon Grove nutrition department, we created a party-like experience in the cafeteria, complete with music, decorations, (including a big stuffed panda) a giant "Plant Power" banner - even a ping pong table! Students sampled the Tofu Lo Mein and learned about the Lunar New Year, discovering how food connects culture, health and sustainability in a delicious and joyful way!

“I’ve never tried tofu before and it was really good!” - Lemon Grove Academy Middle School student.

Students then had the opportunity to choose the new dish on the lunch line, and we are thrilled to report that a majority of students chose the Tofu Lo Mein over the grilled cheese or spaghetti! The dish got rave reviews and 2,000+ families received our Cool Bean recipe card with fun facts + trivia, bringing the message home about the health & environmental benefits of choosing beans (and tofu) for protein!

We're excited to bring this project to two more districts in the coming months!
