A MESSAGE FROM
  KELLEY PARRIS,
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Executive Director, Kelley Parris

Dear Partners and Advocates,

The Board and staff are pleased to announce the build-out of the Children's Board Family Resource Center in Plant City is nearing completion. The 7,900 square foot building is located at 301 North Palmer Street. This is one of seven centers that are located throughout Hillsborough County to provide prevention services and community supports to children and families at no cost.

Not only will the Family Resource Center in Plant City offer universal services like developmental playgroups, health and safety education classes, but it will also have a "Pop up Play" exhibit operated by Glazer Children's Museum. The traveling exhibit will provide children and families that may not be able to access the Children's Museum in downtown Tampa, a unique opportunity to have fun and learn through play. It will allow parents/caregivers and children to build strong bonds and creatively explore alternative ways for children to learn. There will be three exhibits the first year offering the children of Plant City and the surrounding area a variety of opportunities to participate in imaginative play.

The Children's Board Family Resource Centers were created to support families, foster community connections and promote a healthy lifestyle. If you have not visited one of our seven Family Resource Centers, please get connected today. Each of the centers has a calendar full of events including a BayCare Kids Family Circus in June and July that will include free swim vouchers for families that qualify. To identify the location nearest you and view the calendar please click here.

Please join us for the Grand Opening, July 16th at 9:30 a.m. at the Children's Board Family Resource Center in Plant City.

My best,

 Kelley

                 Water Safety Month Proclamation!

Thank you to Commissioner Myers for recognizing May as Water Safety Month on behalf of the Board of County Commissioners. Drowning is the leading of cause death for children ages one to four and it is imperative that we are vigilant when children are in and around water. In 2020 there were seven child deaths due to drowning in Hillsborough County.  In the last seven years there have been 79 deaths due to drowning in the Tampa Bay area.

Tips for parents to keep children safe while near water:
  • Install barriers like door alarms, yard and pool fences to keep children from accessing water.
  • Designate a water watcher, when children are near water.
  • Learn CPR, it saves lives!
