Gaura 'Crimson Butterflies'
Greetings!

The dainty blooms of this week's Plant of the Week, Gaura 'Crimson Butterflies' seem to float on wand-like spikes form early summer to frost. Hot pink flowers are held on short, red stems with dark crimson leaves. The long bloom season and drought tolerance of Gaura 'Crimson Butterflies' make this a terrific plant for the landscape. Grows in zones 5-10

The Scoop on Wandflowers
Wandflower, whirling butterflies, bee blossom, all are common names for Gaura lindheimeri.  These low maintenance  perennials are long blooming even in the heat of summer. With a slight breeze, the loose spray of blooms resemble a cloud of delicate butterflies dancing in the wind.

Where to Plant:  Plant in full sun  in well drained, loamy, sandy soil.

Care:  Little care is required, however, prune by half in late spring to control size of plant.

How to Use:  Plant as sunny border plants, in containers or in mass plantings.

HEUCHERA 'Frosted Violet'
The new leaves are deep maroon-purple, while the older ones are deep plum purple with darker veining. The fine hairs, which cover the leaves, catch the light, giving them a "frosted" appearance, making it almost seem to glow from a distance.
