Kevin joined our La Colonia Clubhouse as a shy nine-year-old. Over time, he made friends, developed confidence, and eventually volunteered with the younger Club Kids after joining our Harper Teen Center. He struggled some in middle school but said
“the staff at the Club believed in my potential to succeed”
and provided tutoring and mentoring to raise his grades. Now a part-time swim instructor and lifeguard for our Clubs, he is enjoying his “victory lap” as a senior at
Torrey Pines High School and excited about his future.
In his time left at the Club before graduation, he hopes he is giving the kids he teaches the same support he received. He credits our staff for welcoming him with open arms, as they supported him daily, became his second family, and
“were determined to not let me fail.”
