Plantation Acres Improvement District Board Admits Long-Standing Negligence

In the email from two weeks ago we provided a link to an opinion on how PAID has been spending our taxes, and it’s not good news. Here’s the link again if you have not had a chance to review it. Click here.

This week we wanted to highlight additional information.

On October 24, 2024, the PAID Board discussed the dissolution of the district and consideration of transferring services to the City of Plantation, being fully aware that this process would give the residents a chance to vote and make the final decision. The Board voted by a majority to dissolve the district. Although at that time it was not enough to trigger the state guidelines for dissolution, it was still a majority approval by the Board.

A Motion was made by Commissioner Munchick and seconded by Commissioner Beazley to dissolve PAID.

We have extracted certain excerpts from comments at the meeting, made by the Board members just to show their insider knowledge detailing decades of neglect and mismanagement. This information was retrieved from the District’s official meeting minutes.

Chairman Nieset – stated that the District has been doing more now than the last twenty years and have more projects in the future.

Vice Chairman Fein – he stated that nothing has been done for so long that we are having to go back to do maintenance and clean out culverts, drains and pipes that have not been touched for thirty years.

Commissioner Munchick – he stated that the “can” was kicked down the road for years and years. Also stated that clearly the residents have lost confidence in the Board.

Commissioner Santana – stated that the Board just figured out that 86 drains have never been touched and the drainage District did not even know that there are drain pipes underneath the streets. Further stated he thinks that the PAID has the worst canals in Broward County.

NOTE – On February 27, 2025, the Board voted on the dissolution of PAID again and at that time it was approved by a super majority which initiated the dissolution process in Tallahassee that brings us to this Special Election.
