The Parks Division is in the process of planting 99 City trees throughout Burlingame in planter strip areas, tree lawns and Parks.  The species of trees being planted will include Trident Maples, Gingko Bilobas, Crepe Myrtles, Maytens, Red Oaks, Cork Oaks,  Australian Willows, Magnolia St. Mary's and Southern, Scarlet Oaks, Red Maples, Raywood Ashes, Chinese Flame trees, Chinese Pistaches, Sycamores, Purple Leaf Plums, Aristocrat Pears and Idaho Locust.  This is the last of three plantings that will happen this year.

Celebrates 30 years in business by giving back to community

Founded in 1986, local and family owned Mollie Stone's celebrated its 30th anniversary recently by donating $30,000 to "thirty local non-profits that have an immense impact on
the surrounding communities of each of Mollie Stone's nine locations".

BNN organized largest citywide drill to date on October 22

180 Burlingame residents participated in the October 22 citywide emergency drill organized by the Burlingame Neighborhood Network (BNN) with support from local HAM radio operators, CERTs, the Central County Fire Department  and the Burlingame Police Department.

In honor of Veterans Day, the U.S. Small Business Administration is reaching out to veterans interested in starting a new business and to small businesses that are veteran-owned who are seeking help in how to grow their businesses. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Veterans Business Development provides a wide range of entrepreneurial counseling and business resources to veterans, service-disabled veterans, military spouses, and National Guard and Reserve service members. Tis the season to give the gift of reading and have dinner to support the Burlingame Library Foundation.  Please come to Books Inc. on Thursday, December 1  from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
There will be refreshments and free gift wrapping.   Then have dinner at Pizza My Heart or Sixto's Cantina the same evening.  A portion of your purchases will be donated to the Foundation. Downton Abbey Afternoon Tea

Burlingame Parks and Recreation's "Acting Out & About" invites all you aristocrats to a Downton Abbey Afternoon Tea. This event is open to the public for the paltry sum of $25.00 per person.
 
Not only will you enjoy a delicious afternoon tea of cucumber sandwiches and scones with clotted cream, but it will also be served and prepared by the "downstairs" employees - "Mrs. Patmore", "Daisy", "Molesley" and, of course, "Carson". Additionally, "Dowager Countess Violet Crawley", "Lady Isobel Crawley" and "Lady Edith Crawley" will be in attendance mingling with the guests.
 
Enjoy conversations from the actual successful PBS show from Season One and Season Two while enjoying the 1910-1920's haute couture. Please feel free to dress for the occasion also.

A League of Their Own

The final Throwback Thursdays Outdoor Movie Series film of the season will be shown at Village Park next Thursday. Come watch A League of Their Own on a beautiful, outdoor, 30-foot, inflatable screen at Village Park.
 
If you are looking for a new date night idea or an evening out with friends, the Throwback Thursdays series is your chance to enjoy a fun night out in Burlingame. Snacks and drinks will be available for purchase on behalf of the Parks and Recreation Foundation. Holiday Helping Hand Toy Drive
Sunday, December 11 from Noon - 4:00 p.m.
Burlingame Recreation Center

Join Moms Against Poverty in partnership with Central County Fire and the Burlingame Youth Advisory Committee for the Holiday Helping Hand Toy Drive event. This will be a day of gift wrapping donated toys for families in need these holidays. Come with your families and bring your donations, big or small! Families will be able to wrap toys together, write cards, and celebrate with the community. We hope to see you there!
Second Annual Elves Workshop - Save the Date!

This event will be an opportunity for a "Parents Night Out" this holiday season. Parents can register their child(ren) in grades K-5. America Recycles Day
Saturday, November 19 from 10:00 a.m.- 1:00 p.m.
Shoreway Environmental Center, 333 Shoreway Road, San Carlos

RethinkWaste, in collaboration with Recology San Mateo County and South Bay Recycling, will host its second annual celebration of "America Recycles Day". This free event will be held rain or shine.

This year's event will feature a compost giveaway, tours of the Shoreway Environmental Center (recycling facility unavailable), shredding and e-waste recycling, arts and crafts, and more. Additionally, the winners of RethinkWaste's third annual America Recycles Day Poster Contest, open to all third through fifth grade classes in the RethinkWaste service area, will be recognized at the event.

The free compost is for residents only, no commercial customers, while supplies last. Paper bags and shovels will be provided for attendees' use, or they may bring their own containers. Shredding is limited to three standard size banker boxes per household. Shredding will stop at the end of the event or when the truck is full - whichever comes first.
