This year’s inspiring storytellers, led by internationally acclaimed Len Cabral, will captivate you with a delightful and diverse range of stories - folklore, adventures from history, and thought-provoking personal tales!
Check out this exciting line-up of tellers!
Len Cabral
Headliner Len Cabral’s ancestry comes alive in his exuberant retelling of African, Cape Verdean, and Caribbean folktales, as well as original stories and tales from around the world. Along with performances throughout the festival, Len will give a special performance for families on Saturday afternoon, and for adults on Saturday evening.
Adwoa Bandele-Asante
Adwoa Bandele-Asante was born and raised right here, in New London, Connecticut. An educator and performing artist, Adwoa will portray Harriet Tubman at the festival, as well as perform a gripping piece about the Amistad.
Simon Brooks
Simon Brooks grew up with ancient hills, standing stones, and castles. British storyteller, musician, and comedian Simon Brooks will perform throughout the festival and will also lead a workshop called, “Breaking Boundaries” on how to use online space.
Jezrie Marcano-Courtney
Jezrie Marcano-Courtney, a charter member of Ubuntu Storytellers, uses true experience storytelling to inspire audiences to think about the question, "What can I do about racism?" She will perform throughout the festival, and will emcee the Teen Teller performance at the library.
Tom Callinan
Tom Callinan, an educator and Connecticut's first "Official State Troubadour", has been putting history to music and engaging audiences for decades. He will emcee and perform at the Gathering and the Scattering on Saturday, as well as perform at the Thames Club on Saturday afternoon.
Sara deBeer
Sara deBeer, an experienced educator with degrees from Yale and Bank Street, tells traditional folktales from world cultures. Along with performances on Saturday morning, she will offer a workshop called, “Storytelling Across the Curriculum” on Saturday afternoon.
Narrative 4 is working to build a culture of inclusivity and connectedness with facilitator-led story exchanges. They will hold a story-sharing workshop on Saturday, an exchange of personal narratives through which we can see the world and ourselves with empathy.
Maasai Tribe Emissaries
Maasai Tribe Emissaries are an exciting, last-minute addition to our schedule. Because their touring schedule in the U.S. allows it, Chief Joseph Ole Tipanko, Cicilia Seleyian, and John Kilenyi Ole Parsitau will be able to join us for the festival. They will share about their culture and have beautiful, handmade items available for purchase at the Thames Club.
