Expect a New and Improved PlatTracker in the New Year

New system may require applicant action

A comprehensive relaunch of the PlatTracker development application portal is coming your way in the New Year. The new platform replaces an outdated application developed in-house more than 10 years ago. The new PlatTracker is expected to go live in early 2025. The Department will also launch improvements to the Houston Preservation Tracker in Spring 2025.

The new PlatTracker continues to serve the established purposes and will additionally:

  • improve efficiency with a dashboard information display
  • streamline the application process
  •  provide an intuitive user interface that is easy to navigate
  •  allows users to build a personalized workspace
  • improve routine task workflow for Planning staff
  •  improve the integration of external systems such as payments and geographic information systems
  • optimize cloud file storage and enable remote access, sharing and exchange of notes

Please be aware:

  • Draft Applications will not be migrated to the New PlatTracker. Draft applications are applications that have been created, but not been submitted yet. They go to a review cycle when submitted. Applicants will create a new draft application on the new system after it goes live.

  • Not-Engaged Organizations (along with their users) will not be migrated to the new PlatTracker system. Not- Engaged Organizations are applicant organizations that are registered in the PlatTracker, but have never submitted any type of applications. Both organization and user(s) accounts will not be migrated; they will be required to register again in the new system.

  • Not-unique email addresses in the current APPLICANT user accounts will be modified to be unique when we migrate user accounts to the new system. This allows the current applicants to login to the new system using their existing credentials in the current/old system. The possibility of using the same email address when the user was member of more than one organization is available in the current PlatTracker but it doesn’t comply with the new system user account policy.

  • Street Names (if any) reserved by the Not-Engaged Organizations will not be migrated to the new system. The street names that are proposed and attached to submitted applications will be migrated to the new system.
