Some good news for San Diego’s youngest...

The County Board of Supervisors voted to invest in Healthy Development Services (HDS) for another year. This critical program supports the social, emotional, and behavioral well-being of young children across the region—ensuring they get the right support, at the right time, in the places families already trust.

Thanks to the Board’s commitment, thousands of children and families will continue to benefit from screenings, early intervention, and mental health services that set the foundation for lifelong health and learning.

Now is the perfect time to thank your Supervisor for prioritizing young children’s mental health! And sharing your personal story or how this impacts you makes it all the more special!

Despite an outpouring of community voice and unprecedented collaboration across sectors

--health care, child care, elder care, hunger relief, disabilities rights, and more--the U.S. reconciliation (10-year budget) bill was signed into law last week. The impacts of the tax and spending policies within the 'Big, Beautiful Bill' will be devastating: taking the Child Tax Credit away from over 660,000 Californian kids; kicking as many as 888,000 Californians off food assistance; and jeopardizing over 120,000 California jobs from the Medicaid and SNAP cuts.

The need to come together on behalf of children means more now than ever before.

Thank you for being here. Thank you for your continued advocacy.

Thank you in advance for sharing this important civic message with your friends and family. Thank you for staying in contact with your representative, to share your perspective on this legislation and the importance of considering the well-being of every child, every vote.

Immigrant families are an essential part of what makes San Diego vibrant, resilient, and strong—they contribute to our economy, enrich our culture, and help our communities thrive.

Supporting every child means supporting immigrant children, without exception, and recognizing their right to safety, opportunity, and belonging. We must ensure that our policies reflect these values by uplifting and protecting all families, regardless of immigration status.

When we stand with immigrant communities, we build a stronger future for all of us.

What We're Following

In June, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors voted to approve First 5’s Measure C 5-Year Plan—unlocking long-awaited and urgently needed investments in families, caregivers, and early educators.

A study released by Child Care Aware shows families in California spend $22,628 a year to enroll just one infant in a child care center. In the last year, the inflation rate in San Diego for child care and school fees rose by 8.7%. “If you go way back to 35 years, the cost of child care in the U.S. has increased at double the rate of inflation,” said Alan Gin, a University of San Diego economics professor.
