This weekend, we'll be hosting two exciting events! First, in celebration of Benjamin Dominguez's 14 fanciful cement sea creatures, the City will be hosting its annual Play Day at Vincent Lugo Park on May 18 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

On May 19, we hope you'll join us for 626 Golden Streets! Participants are encouraged to walk, skate, scoot, run and explore San Gabriel and our neighboring communities as we celebrate active transportation with live entertainment, food and more!

Now, here's what's making news for May 15, 2019:
Celebrate La Laguna de San Gabriel this Saturday
We'll be hosting our annual Play Day at Vincent Lugo Park this Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the corner of Prospect Avenue and Wells Street to celebrate the 54th anniversary of the historic La Laguna de San Gabriel playground with a day of play!

Originally designed by Benjamin Dominguez in 1965, La Laguna de San Gabriel features 14 cement sea creatures embedded within a sea of land. The playground stands as the largest remaining collection of Dominguez sculptures in the world.
SGVHS to host kitten shower this Saturday
The San Gabriel Valley Humane Society will be hosting its first ever kitten shower this Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 851 East Grand Avenue. The SGVHS will be accepting donations for kitten food, litter or supplies for new kitten arrivals.

The pawty will include refreshments, play shower games and prizes!
LA County Health: preventing the spread of measles
In recent weeks, there has been an increase in measles cases around our region. Given the recent cases, Los Angeles County Public Health has been conducting outreach on how to prevent the spread of the virus.

APAFest presents a free screening of Crazy Rich Asians
On May 21, the Mission Playhouse launches APAFest with a free screening of the 2018 hit romantic comedy "Crazy Rich Asians" at 6:30 p.m. Come early at 5:30 p.m. to catch a panel discussion on the film - and be sure to reserve your spot!
Celebrate Public Works on May 23 at Smith Park
Celebrate Public Works Week on May 23 at Smith Park from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. San Gabriel's very own Public Works department will demonstrate equipment and techniques used to maintain City parks, streets, sidewalks, trees, signals, sewers and storm drains!
