On 27th July 1890 a gaunt figure stumbled down a drowsy high street at twilight in the small French country town of Auvers. The man was carrying nothing; his hands clasped to a fresh bullet wound leaking blood from his belly. This was Vincent van Gogh, then a little known artist; now the most famous artist in the world. His tragic death has long been known, what has remained a mystery is how and why he came to be shot. Loving Vincent tells that story. This feature-length film was made using painted animation, the first film of its kind. Special double feature with LOVING VINCENT: THE IMPOSSIBLE DREAM about the making of LOVING VINCENT opens Tuesday, March 12.
Mike Tramp, legendary White Lion singer, songwriter and front man stepped out on his own in 1995 and began his 23-year long solo career. With ten consistent solo albums to his name, and the eleventh to be released March 1st of 2019, Tramp has never steered off his path and is charging forward with confidence, no desire to look back. Tramp says, “It really just meant that I knew who I wanted to be and sound like when I recorded my first solo album twenty-two years ago. I just wanted to be me, and I am damn proud I stuck to my guns.” The hair trend of the decade has since faded, but the music lives on, stronger than ever. To tame the big sound of the 80s hair metal genre, Tramp brings only an acoustic guitar and his voice into the present.

Joining Mike Tramp at this performance will be John Corabi, one of the most talented singers and songwriters to ever come out of the hard rock world.  Whether it was with the Scream, Mötley Crüe, Union, or any of the other amazing recordings that he has been a part of, John's distinctive voice and emotive song writing can not be matched.  Thursday, March 14 at 7:30 pm.
Jimmy Rabbitte (Robert Arkins), a self-proclaimed promoter, decides to organize an R&B group to fill the musical void in his hometown of Dublin, Ireland. The band comes together but ends up consisting entirely of white musicians who have little experience with the genre. Even though their raw talent and lofty aspirations gain the group notoriety, the pitfalls of fame began to tear at their newfound friendships as they prepare for their big show. Celebrating their 40th Anniversary this year, The Green Fields of America was the first group on either side of the Atlantic to bring together Irish vocal, instrumental and dance traditions on the concert and festival stage.  The group continues to feature some of the most celebrated names in Irish American music and dance in including National Heritage Award Recipients Mick Moloney on Banjo, Vocals and Octave Mandolin, and Billy McComiskey on Button Accordion. The group also includes: legendary singer/songwriter Robbie O’Connell, Riverdance and Sharon Shannon Band alum Athena Tergis on 5-string fiddle, World Irish Step Dance Champion Niall O’Leary, acclaimed concertina player and singer Brenda Castles, Pianist and flute player Brendan Dolan and the riveting vocals and fiddle of Liz Hanley.

Based on the 2009 investigative book by BBC correspondent Martin Sixsmith, The Lost Child of Philomena Lee, PHILOMENA focuses on the efforts of Philomena Lee (Judy Dench), mother to a boy conceived out of wedlock - something her Irish-Catholic community didn't have the highest opinion of - and given away for adoption in the United States. In following church doctrine, she was forced to sign a contract that wouldn't allow for any sort of inquiry into the son's whereabouts. After starting a family years later in England and, for the most part, moving on with her life, Lee meets Sixsmith (Steve Coogan), a BBC reporter with whom she decides to discover her long-lost son.  Sunday, March 17 at 6:45 pm. AWAKE: The Life of Yogananda is an unconventional biography about the Hindu Swami who brought yoga and meditation to the West in the 1920s. Paramahansa Yogananda authored the spiritual classic “Autobiography of a Yogi,” which has sold millions of copies worldwide and is a go-to book for seekers, philosophers and yoga enthusiasts today. (Apparently, it was the only book that Steve Jobs had on his iPad.) By personalizing his own quest for enlightenment and sharing his struggles along the path, Yogananda made ancient Vedic teachings accessible to a modern audience, attracting many followers and inspiring the millions who practice yoga today.

Films That Made Music
 Stop Making Sense was the first feature-length documentary effort of filmmaker Jonathan Demme. The director's subject is The Talking Heads, a new-wave/pop-rock group comprised of David Byrne, Chris Franz, Tina Weymouth and Jerry Harrison. The film was made during a three-day concert gig at the Pantages Theater in Hollywood. What emerges on screen says as much about director Demme's taste and sensitivity as it does about the group and its visionary leader Byrne. Though some of the material in Stop Making Sense overlaps with the Talking Heads' earlier concert film The Name of This Band is Talking Heads, one never gets the feeling of by-the-numbers repetition; the group's energy is such that it virtually explodes from the screen. Tito and the Birds is a film about a little boy and his journey to save the world. Tito, a shy 10-year-old boy, lives in a world on the brink of pandemic. His father was forced to leave when Tito was only six and the struggle to find a cure becomes linked with the search to find his father again, along with his own identity. Part action part drama, Tito's journey is at once an uplifting and insightful adventure about a boy fighting to find out what is right and to learn how to overcome his own fear. Princeton Environmental Film Festival: THE WORLD BEFORE YOUR FEET filmmaker screening
There are 8,000 miles of roads and paths in New York City and for the past six years Matt Green has been walking them all – every street, park, cemetery, beach, and bridge. It's a five-borough journey that stretches from the barbershops of the Bronx to the forests of Staten Island, from the Statue of Liberty to Times Square, with Matt amassing a surprisingly detailed knowledge of New York's history and people along the way.

Something of a modern-day Thoreau, Matt gave up his former engineering job, his apartment, and most of his possessions, sustaining his endeavor through couch-surfing, cat-sitting and a $15-per-day budget. He’s not sure exactly why he’s doing it, only knowing that there’s no other way he’d rather spend his days. Executive produced by Oscar® nominee Jesse Eisenberg, The World Before Your Feet is a tribute to an endlessly fascinating city and the freedom to be found, wherever you live, in simply taking a walk.

This screening is presented in partnership with the Princeton Environmental Film Festival , which is presented by the Princeton Public Library. Directed by Obie Award-winning David Drake (The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me) and based on his critically-acclaimed memoir, it is his alcoholic odyssey from small-town sissy to louche Manhattanite that’s wickedly intoxicating as he hits bottom and discovers he can’t escape the all-consuming love of his mother Mama Jean. This Really Happened... Storytelling at HT
Join us for our ongoing series This Really Happened... featuring some of the most hilarious and moving storytellers on stage. With a rotating cast of storytellers, the show is always fresh. Audience members can also claim a spot in the show and share a "two-minute tale" at the open-mic at the end of each show, for up to six audience members. Hosted by Joey Novick , each show will be one hour long with no intermission, followed by the open mic segment of “two-minute tales." The cast for the April 5 show is to be announced.

The C Word
with Dwayne Dunlevy
“The “C” is for comedy says Dwayne, “wink, wink” a twinkle in his eye. “Since it’s a show for adults, it’s nice to know you can’t go too far. Then, it’s all up to God anyway.”

It was in 2010 that Dwayne premiered the first ever The “C” Word to a standing room only audience at the famed Harlan’s cabaret. The sometimes bawdy, always personal show received high praise from audiences that consisted of both locals of the New Hope, PA area as well as New Yorkers and Philadelphians who cited the show’s quality and authenticity.

Writer and Producer Dwayne Dunlevy created the show as a way to bring live theatre in the form of Stand-up comedy back to the famed artist town. Dwayne’s own stand-up career began in Brooklyn, New York, circa 1995 where he won an award for his first ever stand-up routine in front of a live audience at Pratt University. From there it was steady experience by fire at comedy clubs in New York and Philadelphia for Dwayne who now, two decades later, performs at public and private events throughout the tri-state area.

Join us for a delicious and entertaining brunch with a performance by cellist Dan Kassel. Enjoy a sumptuous buffet with an array of delectable food items while listening to the uplifting tunes! Emotionally provocative and layered in symphonic warmth, Dan Kassel's solo cello music brings this classical instrument to new heights. Using an acoustic cello, Dan bridges the gaps between Klezmer and Irish folk, Indian classical and down-tempo electronic music, levity and suspense. His ability to use technology to loop and layer his instrument into expansive tapestries of sound is impressive, but the element that really stands out is the cello's deep and moving resonance. His work has been featured by WXPN, NJ.com and other independent blogs, and his piece, "Moonslice," won an Honorable Mention in 2014's International Songwriting Contest.

Her creative brand of comedy and family humor is captivating audiences by embodying multi- dimensional characters she creates. Born in Brooklyn and raised in Staten Island, Candice’s family always spoke at full volume. But they weren’t fighting, “that’s just how they communicated.” Within this 85 minute Theatrical Comedy, Candice slips in & out of her family impersonations as she cooks up a full meal of growing up Staten Island. The stories in “Italian Bred” are derived from Candice’s real childhood experiences. She recounts her upbringing by impersonating her family’s unique personalities, especially that of her outspoken, Grandma Frannie’s unfiltered words & wisdom.

Bread and Puppet present Diagonal Man: Theory and Praxis
Diagonals are created from the leaning power of hurt verticals," says Peter Schumann, founder and director of Bread and Puppet Theater, which will present their new play, Diagonal Man: Theory and Praxis, at Hopewell Theater on May 9th. We inhabitants of Western modernity are no strangers to verticality, from the architecture of our cities, to the "ladder(s) of success" we're asked to scale, to the incessant wakefulness required of us, postponing the horizontal pleasures of sleep. Bread and Puppet's Diagonal Man presents the diagonal as a potent and promising opposition to the dominating verticality of our culture. Puppeteers long ago realized that the most aesthetically radical movements for puppets are diagonals, because these movements are cannot be sustained by human actors or dancers for more than a moment. (Gymnasts upsidedown themselves frequently and with ease, but diagonal positions remain inaccessible without the use of puppet.) Diagonal Man brings all the bewildering, beguiling, and downright funny possibilities and implications of diagonality to life with song, dance, magic, mechanism, and stunning cardboard and paper maché puppets painted in Peter Schumann's exuberant, slapdash expressionist style.

The Bread and Puppet Theater was founded in 1963 by Peter Schumann on New York City’s Lower East Side. Besides rod-puppet and hand puppet shows for children, the concerns of the first productions were rents, rats, police, and other problems of the neighborhood. In 1974 Bread and Puppet moved to a farm in Glover in the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont. Bread and Puppet is one of the oldest, nonprofit, self-supporting theatrical companies in the country.
