The Allman Betts Band, Mick Moloney & the Green Fields of America, and Nellie McKay are coming to HT this spring. More info below!
“Dying to Know” is an intimate portrait celebrating two very complex, controversial characters in an epic friendship that shaped a generation. In the early 1960s Harvard psychology professors Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert began probing the edges of consciousness through their experiments with psychedelics. Leary became the LSD guru, challenging convention, questioning authority and as a result spawned a global counter culture movement landing in prison after Nixon called him “the most dangerous man in America”. Alpert journeyed to the East becoming Ram Dass, a spiritual teacher for an entire generation who continues in his 80’s teaching service through compassion. With interviews spanning 50 years the film invites us into the future encouraging us to ponder questions about life, drugs & the biggest mystery of all: death. A part of Hopewell Theater's ongoing series, The Art of Living Well.
Featured as a part of HT's ongoing The Art of Living Well series , experience the awesome power of yogic chant. While many have discovered the tremendous benefits of yoga and meditation, far fewer have discovered the power of mantra. Yet this ancient yogic path offers extraordinarily relevant tools for our 21st century lives. Storytelling, poetry, and insightful commentary combine with experiential chanting, offering audiences easy access to this potent mind/body medicine. Beginner, intermediate, and advanced chanters are always welcome.

Call it an unreality show.  Since the summer of 2006, The Liar Show has taken the art of deception to theaters, cabarets and cultural centers around the U.S. and Canada and was called “A Winner” (The Scotsman) and received 4 Stars during a month-long run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. At each show, four performers tell short personal stories, but listen carefully, because one of these people is making it all up. Interrogate the cast and expose the Liar to win our unbelievable T-shirt. But as The Washington Post wrote of our show: “Prizes mean nothing compared with the sweet victory of being recognized as the savviest people in the room.” This show will feature storytellers Cyndi Freeman, Rory Scholl, Tracy Rowland, Carla Katz and host Brad Lawrence. One night only! Friday, December 7 at 8 pm.
Tom Volf's MARIA BY CALLAS is the first film to tell the life story of the legendary Greek/American opera singer completely in her own words. Told through performances, TV interviews, home movies, family photographs, private letters and unpublished memoirs-nearly all of which have never been shown to the public-the film reveals the essence of an extraordinary woman who rose from humble beginnings in New York City to become a glamorous international superstar and one of the greatest artists of all time.
Chris Harford has been playing music now for decades. He has surrounded himself with musicians his whole life, playing with some of the best out there. In the spirit of Bill Monroe and his Bluegrass Boys, Chris invites musicians he meets to be in his band whenever he hears or sees something special. This has resulted in a legacy of players, many of whom have moved on to form or be part of enormously successful bands, but who are always happy to come home and play Chris’ music for the sake of playing Chris’ music. Chris will be joined by Joe Russo and Scott Metzger of Joe Russo's Almost Dead along with Dave Dreiwitz of Ween and the Dean Ween Group. Only a few tickets remain, grab yours today before they're gone!
Accountant Eric (Rob Brydon) is simply treading water when he discovers a newfound sense of purpose thanks to an unexpected source: a group of similarly stuck-in-a-rut guys who have found camaraderie and self-worth through synchronized swimming. Sure, they may be a bit paunchy, but they're determined to prove they have what it takes to be a whirling, twirling, scissor-kicking aquatic dream team. And they've set their sights on the ultimate prize: the world championship. Opens Sunday, December 9 with a Crybaby Matinee on Thursday, December 13 at 11 am
