The Professor: Tai Chi's Journey West is the first major feature documentary about Tai Chi and one of its greatest masters, Cheng Man-Ching , a man who brought Tai Chi and Chinese culture to the West during the swinging, turbulent 60’s. Though Cheng is an important transformational figure, his teachings have been overlooked. This documentary film tells the story of his remarkable life and features Tai Chi as a martial art and a spiritual practice. This film is a part of Hopewell Theater's ongoing series The Art of Living Well , featuring inspiring films, speakers and interactive discussions exploring ways of cultivating serenity, meaning and a deeper connection to one’s self and the world. One night only! Tuesday, January 8 at 7 pm.
19 year-old Ben Burns (Oscar winner Lucas Hedges) unexpectedly returns home to his family's suburban home on Christmas Eve morning. Ben's mother, Holly (Oscar winner Julia Roberts), is relieved and welcoming but wary of her son staying clean. Over a turbulent 24 hours, new truths are revealed, and a mother's undying love for her son is tested as she does everything in her power to keep him safe. Ben is Back also stars Courtney B. Vance (The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story) and Kathryn Newton (Lady Bird).

" Most movies are focused directly on the present moment, following along with a story as it unfolds, but "Ben Is Back" is different, creating the sense that the lives of each of its richly shaded characters continues even when she or he is not on-screen." - Peter Debruge, Variety

From Stage To Screen:
La Traviata
From the thrill of unexpected romance to a heartbreaking reconciliation that comes too late – Verdi’s La traviata is one of the most popular of all operas. Alfredo falls in love in with the courtesan Violetta in glamorous Paris society, but underneath the surface run darker undercurrents, leading to a tragic ending. The opera’s wealth of melodies includes the famous Brindisi and the exuberant ‘Sempre libera’ – both showing the lyricism of Italian opera at its most immediately appealing. Richard Eyre’s production for The Royal Opera brings out all the emotional colour, from the giddy discovery of love, through painful confrontation to the inevitable conclusion. Lavish period sets and costumes enhance the reality of a moving story based on true life. Sung in Italian with English subtitles.
Wednesday, February 27 at 7 pm or Saturday, March 2 at 2:45 pm.

Playmate Playwrights presents LOVE IS STRANGE
Hopewell Theater is proud to partner with Playmate Playwrights to present a conglomeration of six original one act live play readings in one evening. Playwrights, Jonathan Chiccino, Joanne Eisenberg, Meghan Malloy, Jennifer Nelson and Susan Sandor had the option of taking the theme in any direction they chose, making for a diverse body of work. You may laugh, cry, or sigh in your seats. “Our mission is to bring our works to life live on stage, make them memorable for the audience, and to help us grow as playwrights,” says Susan Sandor, producer of the performance. The plays are directed by veteran actor and acting instructor, Joey Perillo. This is the group’s second staged reading, the first of which played to a sold-out crowd and received big-hearted accolades from the audience. Saturday, February 2 at 8 pm
