This annual Portland landmark race finished up - do you know of any t1d athletes who ran? If so, please email CDF and let us know! 

On that same day, across the U.S. in Chicago in another marathon, 5 individuals who have undergone the complex procedure of "islet cell transplantation" competed as a team. 

Follow Cellmates on the Run in their next race, the ING New York Marathon on November 4.

Speaking of Halloween sweets, learn about "Sweetest Day", a traditional holiday celebrated primarily in the northeastern United States on the 3rd Saturday of October where candy symbolizes a gift of gratitude. Who knew October was such a sugar-sprinkled month?

Adam Morrison, the only player currently in the NBA with T1d, has been invited to the Blazers' training camp. For the month of October, Morrison will be working for his last shot in the NBA to see if he can make the Trail Blazer final team. Hear about his hopes for a spot in

Diagnosed at age 13 during an 8th grade basketball game where he exhibited seizure-like symptoms during overtime, Morrison, a Spokane, Washington resident at the time, went on to become a college basketball star at Gonzaga, and eventually played for multiple NBA teams. Morrison and General Manager Neil Olshey give their perspective on Morrison's chances for being able to stick with the Trail Blazers for one last round.

Circle on the Court features FREE Sports Clinics for Kids.

The clinics will be coached by ambassadors from the NBA and Portland Timbers, including Chris Dudley, Dominique Wilkins, as well as Bob Medina, Trail Blazers' Strength and Conditioning Coach.  


Kids ages 6-17  will learn basketball and soccer skills right on the Rose Garden court, and take home valuable lessons about the importance of staying active. 


It's a fun-filled atmosphere you won't want to miss: celebrity coaching; music from the Rose Garden sound system; plus - kidsChris Dudley dunk get a chance to see themselves up on the Rose Garden Jumbotron!

Saturday, November 10th: 
  • Circle on the Court, at the Rose Garden arena in Portland, Oregon.  It's a free event from 9am - 1pm, open to the public, and will showcase the best health and wellness resources in the Pacific Northwest.

  • Casey Eye Outreach Van will return to Circle on the Court at the Portland Rose Quarter to offer free diabetic retinopathy screenings, as part of the third annual World Diabetes Day kickoff event. Stay on the move with Case Eye Institute!
