Later Life Superpower: From Hindsight to Foresight

We usually imagine that our experience of time is steady and linear – but it's not always so.

Extraordinary moments seem to slow or even freeze in our awareness. As life progresses, we all collect those moments in the hindsight of our mind's eye. They live on as hyper-real memory.

It is precisely our hindsight – richly layered by life experience – that gives elapsed time its meaning.

Spiritual life invites us to inhabit wise hindsight, then pivot our adult wisdom into foresight.

"WORTH A THOUSAND WORDS:

SPIRITUAL IMAGERY OF THE HIGH HOLY DAYS"

Join Rabbi David and Rabbi Rachel Barenblat (Congregation Beth Israel of the Berkshires) for our third annual joint runway series leading to the High Holy Days, preparing heart and soul for our annual journey of inner transformation.

This year we’ll immerse in the spiritual imagery of the High Holy Day liturgy – depictions of humanity, divinity, morality and transcendence that liturgy’s prayerful words seek to rouse in us. Together we'll unpack key holiday texts using visual, musical and poetic renderings to deepen our personal experience of prayer and the call of teshuvah (repentance, return). Topics will include core liturgies such as Avinu Malkeinu, Kol Nidre, Unetaneh Tokef, Psalm 27, Avodah (Purification) and Neilah.

Free to members of Shir Ami or CBI; $120 for non-members.

Seven Tuesdays online starting July 28, 7:00pm

SAVE THE DATE: Book Club for October

Shir Ami High Holiday Mitzvah Project

Helping Our Neighbors - Sharing Our Blessings

Dear Friends,

Jewish Family Services of Greenwich helps clients from Greenwich to Norwich to Stamford to Norwalk. They need toiletries for their clients - it's among their most requested items. It would be a major mitzvah if you could purchase some of these to contribute to the JFS toiletries drive. Bring them to Shir Ami's High Holiday Services, and we will deliver them to JFS in Greenwich.

If you would like to order any of the items from Amazon, here's an Amazon link to a list JFS has provided: Shir Ami Toiletry Drive OR you can purchase shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, feminine hygiene items, anywhere you shop, and bring your item(s) to Shir Ami's services.

Let's make the High Holidays even more meaningful.

Best Regards,

Ronny Kaplan
