Winter Concert Season
Concerts begin at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome to these free events.
John Jay High School
January 14 | Orchestra & Choral Concert
Performances by the Symphonic Orchestra, conducted by Elissa Leventhal, and the John Jay Chorale, conducted by Joanna Giordano.  

Highlights include “Bacchanale” by Camille Saint-Saens; “Winter Song" by Sara Bareilles & Ingrid Michaelson, performed by the Chorale and accompanied by the string section of the Symphonic Orchestra; and "Somebody to Love" by Queen. 
January 16 | Band Concert
A program of music featuring three ensembles conducted by Emily Pierson: John Jay’s Concert Band, a freshman ensemble; Symphonic Band, made up of sophomores through seniors; and Wind Ensemble, a select group.  

Highlights include Leroy Anderson's "Bugler's Holiday," featuring three solos played by four trumpet players, and selections from Hans Zimmer's "The Lion King" performed by all three bands.
January 28 | Jazz Concert
Performances by John Jay’s jazz groups—the 5:30 Jazz Band and the 7:15 Jazz Band, named for their practice times!—conducted by Emily Pierson. The program features exciting jazz combo pieces as well as solos by Marc Di Giacomo on guitar and Garrett Axelrod on piano.

The evening also includes performances by student-run  a cappella groups The Notables, The Rolling Tones and The Treblemakers.
Concerts take place at the John Jay High School Theater. 
John Jay Middle School
January 22 | Orchestra Concert
A program featuring the Sixth Grade Orchestra, the Seventh and Eighth Grade Orchestra and the Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Elissa Leventhal.

The program includes "Ninja” by Richard Meyer, “Boogie Blues” by Deborah Baker Monday, and "Rosin Eating Zombies from Outer Space” also by Meyer a class favorite that features ponticello (playing on the bridge), glissando (sliding up and down the strings) and blood-curdling screams.
January 27 | Band Concert
A program featuring the Sixth Grade Band and the Seventh and Eighth Grade Band, conducted by Jennifer Fraczek. 

Highlights include "Ghost Ship," a beautiful sea shanty by Michael Story played by the clarinets on top of a dissonant and ghostly sounding band; "Frogs" by Randall D. Standridge in which instruments mimic the sound of the swamp; and "Darklands March," also by Standridge, a regal piece written in a minor key. 
Concerts take place at the John Jay Middle School Theater.

Concerts take place at each elementary school. They are conducted by April Higgins, Linda Kirshenbaum, Erin Lindon, Ann Marie Ouellette, and Melissa Richardson.
