Greetings!

The month of August is more than just the eighth stop in the year—it is a symbol of new beginnings. But not all beginnings start from scratch. Some begin with a shift—a realignment, a redirection, or a gentle push into a new season of life.

August marks one of those natural shift points. Families are transitioning from the carefree rhythm of summer vacations back into school routines. Retail stores reflect this shift with changing inventory—beach towels and pool floats make room for notebooks and backpacks.

Our environments are literally telling us: it is time to shift. But this shift can move beyond logistical—it can be personal and purposeful. August is a perfect opportunity to shift your mindset and direction. Shift from summer’s pause to fall’s preparation. Shift from indulgence to intention.

Indeed, now is a perfect time to refocus on areas of our lives that matter most. This might mean:

1) Revisiting financial goals—Have you stuck to your budget? Do you need to make adjustments to meet your year-end objectives?

2) Prioritizing spiritual growth—Are you spending time with God regularly? Is your faith deepening?

3) Committing to personal wellness—Have you been caring for your body, your mind, your relationships?

4) Becoming more present at home and in your community—How are you showing up for those around you?

Let the days of August be a launching pad—not just into a new school year, but into a better version of yourself. God does not just call us to change when the year begins—God calls us to become better every day, in every season.

As you embrace your shift, be encouraged by the Word of God: For example, Isaiah in chapter 43, verses 18-19, exhorts us to, “Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?” While the Apostle Paul tells us, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—God's good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2, NIV)

Essentially, August invites us all into transformation—into movement, into momentum, into new mercies. So take this opportunity to shift—not just into a new month, but into a renewed mindset, a better rhythm, and a stronger, more focused you.

National Wellness Month Activities for August 2025

August is National Wellness Month — a time to focus on mental, physical, and emotional well-being. Even with a busy schedule, it is a great reminder to incorporate simple wellness practices that support your overall health.

By: Polly Clover

1. Do a Social Media Cleanse

Taking a break from social media can lead to better mental health and more free time for activities that support your well-being. A recent study found that a two-week social media cleanse helped participants sleep better, exercise more, feel less stressed, and create stronger relationships.

Try deleting apps from your phone temporarily, turning off notifications, or limiting time on specific platforms. It also helps to keep your phone away for certain parts of the day, such as during work and when spending time with loved ones.

2. Connect With Friends and Family

If you have been meaning to call a friend or visit a loved one, now is the time. Social connection is a key part of well-being, and National Wellness Month is a great excuse to make plans or simply check in.

Even small gestures like texting a friend or scheduling a coffee date can lift your mood and reduce feelings of isolation.

3. Find a Hobby

Not only are hobbies fun, but they are also good for your health. Research shows that having a hobby as an adult is linked to greater happiness and overall well-being.

Try something new or get back into an old hobby. Fun ideas for adults include painting, gardening, doing puzzles, hiking, or cooking a new recipe.

4. Eat Healthy Foods

What you eat plays a significant role in how you feel. A nutritious, well-rounded diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, and both plant and animal-based proteins can help lower disease risk and improve your energy levels.

Use National Wellness Month to add more plant-based meals to your diet or prep healthier snacks ahead of time. In the workplace, consider offering nutritious snacks in the break room or organizing a healthy recipe swap among team members.
