Hello Dexter,

As spring unfolds around us—with its fresh blooms and cleansing rains—we are reminded that growth often comes after seasons of pressing and pruning. In nature and in life, faithfulness in hard times produces fruit in due season. Scripture encourages us: Let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not (Galatians 6:9).

This spring, our community has been sowing seeds of justice through our 40-day fast and economic blackout, standing boldly against the erosion of just, inclusive, and equitable practices. Like spring rain, our sacrifices may seem quiet, but they are soaking the ground for greater things to grow. We are aligning our resources and our spirits with righteousness, as Isaiah 58, reminds us the fast God desires is one that loosens the chains of injustice.

Remaining faithful is not always convenient. Daniel did not wait for the laws to change to pray. Similarly, the Hebrew boys did not wait for the furnace to cool before taking their stand. They were faithful in the moment—and God met them there. So must we remain firm in our values, even when the cultural climate tempts us to retreat or remain silent.

As Palm Sunday approaches, we remember that Jesus entered Jerusalem with full knowledge that celebration would soon turn to betrayal. Yet, He remained committed to His calling even knowing that the same voices would shout “Hosanna” then later would yell, “Crucify Him”—but He did not waver. This holy season reminds us that true faithfulness is not seasonal—it is steadfast!

So, as the rains fall and the earth awakens, let us press on with hope. Our fasting, our sacrifices, and our stand are not in vain. We are nurturing something deeper—a future rooted in justice, watered by faith, and strengthened by love.

In strength and solidarity,

Sincerely,

Dr. Dexter Royes

Your Health

This Season

Source - Community Care Physicians

It is suggested you engage in approximately 150 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week. This can also be switched to 75 minutes of vigorous aerobic activity or a combination of the two types of activities. Strength training of all the major muscle groups is also recommended at least twice a week. Some great ways to get in your weekly exercises during this season of springtime are:

Bike riding – It is a great time to start preparing for National Bike Month in May!

Gardening – Not only is having your own garden a fun springtime activity, it can also be a great way to encourage you to eat more fruits and vegetables.

Spring cleaning – It’s about that time again! With upbeat music, even cleaning can be fun!

Walking -- Walk to nearby destinations. Not only will you save on gas, walking is excellent exercise! Plus, you will have the chance to see the trees and flowers begin to bloom.

Jogging – Running can be great exercise and gets you outside in nature.

Tips to Get and Stay Active

The CDC has some tips to keep in mind as you create a work-out regiment:

Speak with your doctor if you have a chronic condition (such as type 2 diabetes or heart disease).

Reach out to friends and family for support – have them join you in your springtime activities!

It’s okay to start out slow! Add time, frequency, or intensity every week.

Schedule physical activity around your energy level – pick days and times during the week when you’re most energetic.

Make your springtime activities and exercises part of your daily or weekly schedule.

Try to walk more, instead of driving. Park further away in parking lots to create a nice walk for yourself.

Keep in mind neighborhood improvements and support them. They help to make it easier to walk and bike around your area.
