Hello Dexter,

As we approach this weekend, I invite you to take a moment to pause, reflect, and pray. The world around us is filled with challenges—wars and conflicts rage, injustice lingers in our communities, and personal struggles test our faith and endurance. Yet, in the midst of it all, we are called not to despair but to seek God’s guidance and strength.

Take time to reflect. Reflect on the state of the world, the injustices that cry out for justice, and the deep need for peace among nations. Reflect on the struggles within your own community—the delays, the challenges, the obstacles that hinder progress and unity. Reflect on your own life, your family, and the work God has called you to do. Look in the mirror and ask yourself, What can I do to make this world a better place? Perhaps, you cannot change the world overnight, but you can start with yourself. You can start with your home. You can start with your community.

And as we reflect, let us also turn to prayer. Pray that God will grant us strength and energy to stand against injustice, to endure trials, and to be an agent of transformation. Pray for peace—not just in far-off lands, but in our own neighborhoods, our families, and within our hearts. Pray that the love of Christ will be made known through our actions, that we may be instruments of His peace. Let the verse, “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God” (Matthew 5:9), resound in our hearts, souls and minds.

As we reflect, pray and take action, may we remain faithful to the example of Christ, who calls us to love, serve, and stand firm in righteousness. May we remain faithful to God’s command to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with Him (Micah 6:8). And may the God of love, the God of peace, grant us a peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7).

Together, let us move forward in faith, knowing that through our reflections, our prayers, and our actions, we can be part of God’s redemptive work in the world.

Blessings and peace to you this weekend.

Sincerely,

Dr. Dexter Royes

Ms. Byllye Avery is an American activist who has dedicated her life to fighting for reproductive health, specifically health care and reproductive access for Black women.

Her own experience battling an autoimmune disease and her work with special needs children inspired her to address the systemic health disparities facing the Black community. In 1974, she and her partners opened the Gainesville Women's Health Center to provide reproductive needs to people in Florida.

A year after Roe v. Wade legalized abortion care, Ms. Byllye and others opened the only clinic in Gainesville, FL, to provide reproductive health services (including abortion care and birth control). She went on to start the Black Women’s Health Imperative, formerly known as the National Black Women’s Health Project.

Throughout her lifetime, Ms. Byllye has written and lectured about the intersections between race, sex, class, and health care. She is the recipient of a MacArthur fellowship in health policy.
