Hello Dexter,

I would like us to consider carefully the proverb, “Sacrifice always reaps a reward.” It is a powerful truth, especially when applied to various aspects of life. Let us examine briefly the ways in which sacrifice leads to rewards in four important domains of life.

The first area involves sacrifices for physical health. Giving up harmful and detrimental habits, (i.e., eating high calorie/low nutritional foods, consuming excessive sugar, or leading a sedentary lifestyle) results in increased energy, improved immune function, and longevity. The discipline pays off with a body that feels stronger and fitter.

The second area includes sacrifices for mental health. When you thoughtfully set boundaries, reduce your stress levels, step away from toxic relationships, or limit your social media use, then you gain greater mental acuity, a deeper degree of inner peace and emotional well-being. In sacrificing short-term forms of enjoyment, comfort, and security, you gain long-term mental health benefits.

Third are sacrifices for a healthier body. Investing time and effort on exercise, rest, and proper nutrition lead to immeasurable rewards of strength, endurance, and overall health. Regular exercise and good nutrition contribute to a healthier heart, stronger muscles, and a toned physique; all leading to a greater sense of physical satisfaction.

The fourth and final area is sacrifices for self-Improvement. These require us to forgo instant gratification and reduce the amount of free time we use on fleeting entertainment or mind-numbing distractions. The rewards will be a sharper mind, increase confidence, and ongoing opportunities to engage in activities that enhance personal growth and skill development. When you positively invest in yourself, it leads to success, fulfillment, and a stronger sense of purpose.

So, whether the sacrifices are in the form of time, effort, or giving up short-term pleasures, the rewards always will be irrefutable. Physical health leads to longer life; mental health brings peace and clarity; a healthier body boosts confidence and energy; and self-improvement leads to personal and professional growth. Ultimately, sacrifice brings fulfillment and lasting gratification.

Sincerely,

Pastor Dexter Royes

THE REST PRINCIPLE

What is Rest?

Rest may be thought of as good sleep, meditation to relax your brain, or “taking it easy” after excessive physical activity or sickness. While it can be all these things, Seventh-day Adventists also include the Sabbath which is an entire day devoted to resting. “God rested on the seventh day from all His work which God had made.” Genesis 2:2

It would be lovely if eight hours of sleeping resulted in us waking up feeling amazingly rejuvenated and ready to conquer the world every single day. Unfortunately, most everyone has experienced that you can actually sleep 8 hours or more and wake up completely unrested. So, it serves to reason that there are various types of rest that may not be accomplished with sleep alone. In fact, there are four different types of rest that we should strive for every day.

Types of Rest

The four different forms of rest include:

1. Physical Rest

2. Sensory Rest

4. Mental Rest

5. Emotional Rest

While it goes without saying that without proper rest you feel terrible, there are many other reasons that rest really does matter!
