On February 28, the City Council received a presentation from Marin Clean Energy (MCE), a community choice energy company, about the potential for Vacaville to join their program.
MCE is a local not-for-profit public agency who offers residential and business customers a choice of more renewable electricity options at stable and competitive rates. MCE currently serves more than 200 communities.
Prior to taking action to enroll Vacaville, the City Council directed staff to inform the community about the program. Therefore, the City is offering residents a brief poll to complete, and is hosting informational workshops where MCE is providing details about their services, the benefits of renewable energy, and the opt-out process for customers should the program move forward in Vacaville.
It is anticipated that the City Council will make a determination in June 2023. If the actions are taken to opt Vacaville into MCE’s community choice program, MCE would automatically become the primary provider for electricity generation and replace PG&E’s generation service on your bill. MCE’s standard service option offers a minimum of 60% renewable energy compared to PG&E’s 31% renewable energy generation. PG&E would continue to deliver energy, maintain lines and infrastructure, and send bills. Residents would have the option to remain with PG&E’s electric generation service by opting out of MCE service should they desire.
