Dear Parents & Guardians,
I want to wish you and your family a Happy Thanksgiving! Students are reminded to take care of any grooming issues before returning to school on Monday 11/29. That includes shaving and hair cuts. All students need to follow our grooming policy that is in our handbook. Students are reminded to write down or record their locker number/code so they do not forget when they return from Thanksgiving break.

ID Cards Father Judge students in grades 10 - 12 were issued/given the opportunity to receive a new Father Judge ID card last school year. Any returning student who has lost or has a damaged ID card will need to purchase a new one by the end of the month. The cost is $20.00 dollars, a new lanyard is $5.00 dollars, and optional protective case is $1.00 dollar (recommended).

Septa has started their fare card program for all students. Students can not lose these cards. These cards will be active during their entire academic career at Father Judge.

Please note that morning detention has begun. Morning detention is Monday to Thursday (subject to change) from 7:15-7:45 am. Students should arrive at school starting at 7 am in order to check in with the cafeteria moderator (Mr. Williams or Mr. Dougherty), go to their locker to deposit their belongings and come to room 133 by 7:15 am sharp in full uniform with their Chromebook ready to do any schoolwork needed. They cannot bring their phones or food, jackets etc.. Any student who is late will receive additional days (infractions).

Any questions or concerns please contact the Student Services Offices.
Mr. Mike Campellone

How long have you been teaching?

I have been a teacher for 25 years, 23 of them here at Judge.

What subjects do you teach?

I currently teach freshman and seniors in religion, and I developed a course for seniors and juniors title "Sports and Spirituality"

What is your favorite part of teaching at Father Judge?

My favorite part about teaching is forming relationships with the students, and helping them to grow academically and as a Salesian Gentleman and a Judge guy. Being able to see their growth in these areas throughout the course of the year is awesome.

What made you want to become a teacher?

Never wanted a 9-5 job, and I wanted something where I can make a positive impact on young people's lives.

What is the one takeaway you have from your teaching career?

The one takeaway from teaching is this: When you see students (now alumni) 1, 5, 10, 15 years after they have graduated, and they have turned into great fathers, husbands, workers, etc. That they still talk about their days at FJ, you realize the groundwork you laid as a teacher paid off. And we are blessed to have the best alumni, the #judgeguys, to remind us teachers we did a good job.

We are blessed to have Mr. Campellone at our school. The Father Judge community is thankful for all of our teachers and their tireless work in bettering the minds of our students. - Father Judge Administration

TEACHERS TEACHING
Mr. Dougherty's World History Class

Freshmen in Mr. Doc's class needed some help with the winter uniform. The students watched a quick video on how to tie a tie and then proceeded to help each other. Salesian brotherhood at its finest!
Mrs. Ganley & Mr. Dailey's Psychology Class

All the Psychology classes participated in the Sensation and Perception Lab. They tested how perception goggles can alter their senses when throwing a paper ball and while pouring water. They tested their sense of smell by identifying various scents. They tested their sense of touch by identifying mystery items in a bag. They made their own optical illusion art. Lastly, they tested their sense of taste with blind taste tests of M&Ms and Skittles.
Ms. Kots Chemistry Class

Chemistry students calculate average atomic mass of “candium” isotope in order to model isotopes and calculating average atomic mass of elements.
Mrs. Teson's Theology Class

Juniors are illustrating the phrases of the Apostles Creed and the Mysteries of the Rosary on a Storyboard/worksheet. They will then place the corresponding phrase or mystery on the back of their picture and use them as flash cards to assist them in learning and remembering these essential parts of this devotion which we pray at the beginning of each class.

Certified School Nurse
215-338-9494 ext 1116

NOTES FROM THE NURSE:

It is imperative we keep our Father Judge community as healthy as possible. Please ensure that your son is practicing healthy habits. Optimal health is dependent upon adequate sleep, exercise and proper nutrition. Eating a healthy breakfast every day will give your son more energy, help manage his weight, and improve his concentration.
WHEN TO KEEP YOUR STUDENT HOME FROM SCHOOL:
If your child exhibits 2 or more of the following symptoms, please contact their primary doctor to discuss further treatment:
* Fever= to or > 100.4
* Dry cough ( not related to a preexisting condition)
* Shortness of breath if not related to asthma
* Chills
* New loss of taste or smell
* Vomiting and/or diarrhea
* Unexplained rash

WHEN YOUR CHILD SHOULD RETURN TO SCHOOL:
If your child only has 1 of the above listed symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting or fever-They may return to school after 24 hours of being symptom free without taking any fever reducers (Tylenol Motrin etc.).
Please do NOT administer pain relievers/fever reducers and send your son to school, as this exposes everybody to unnecessary health risks.

2ND MCV IMMUNIZATION REQUIRED FOR ALL SENIOR STUDENTS:
The State of Pennsylvania requires all senior students to have a 2nd Meningitis vaccine after their 16th birthday. All seniors should be up to date with the 2nd MCV at this time.

9TH & 11TH GRADER PHYSICAL/IMMUNIZATION RECORDS :
The State of Pennsylvania requires all 9th & 11th grade students to have a current physical along with updated immunizations on record in the nurse's office. Please submit all information as soon as possible.

STUDENT EMERGENCY/MEDICAL INFORMATION FOR ALL STUDENTS:
Should your son have any specific health issues that would impact their education, please be sure this information has been provided to both the school nurse and all teacher's on your son's roster.
For your child's safety, the "Student Emergency/Medical Information" form is required to be completed every school year and returned to the health room in September. This information is kept on file and becomes part of your child's health records. In order for your child to receive Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen for pain relief, a parent's signature must be on file on the "Student Emergency/Medical Information Form." When your child requires any medications during the school day, the medication form must be completed by your son's doctor. All School Nurse forms can be found on the website, click parents, click forms.

FLU VACCINE:
The flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2021-2022 to protect yourself and the people around you.The Center For Disease Control recommends that:
Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenzaPeople at High Risk of Developing Flu-Related Complications has a full list of age and health factors that confer increased risk.
Flu vaccination has important benefits. It can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths.
Different flu vaccines are approved for use in different groups of people.
There are many vaccine options to choose from. CDC does not recommend one flu vaccine over another. The most important thing is for all people 6 months of age and older to get a flu vaccine every year.
If you have questions about which flu vaccine to get, talk to your doctor or other health care professional

HEALTH INSURANCE:
The  Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY)  Child Helpline helps parents enroll in Medicaid or CHIP for their children. The Helpline is also available to answer questions about Medicaid or CHIP coverage, help you find a health care provider – including behavioral health – and provide assistance with insurance problems. No family makes too much or too little for their children to get health insurance. Children are eligible if they are citizens OR if they have any current US immigration document, and do not need a social security number to apply.
This is a free service, and they can assist families in any language.

Please feel free to contact the school nurse with any questions or concerns regarding your children. I'm available Monday thru Friday email at [email protected].
