                    FROM THE NURSE
Norma J Walens
Certified School Nurse
215-338-9494 ext 1116

Please feel free to contact the school nurse with any questions or concerns regarding your children. I'm available Monday thru Friday email at nwalens@fatherjudge.com.

It is imperative we keep our Father Judge community as healthy as possible. Please ensure that your son is practicing healthy habits. Optimal health is dependent upon adequate sleep, exercise and proper nutrition. Eating a healthy breakfast every day will give your son more energy, help manage his weight, and improve his concentration.
If your child exhibits 2 or more of the following symptoms, please contact their primary doctor to discuss further treatment:
* Fever= to or > 100.4
* Dry cough ( not related to a preexisting condition)
* Shortness of breath if not related to asthma
* Chills/Rigors
* New loss of taste or smell
* Vomiting and/or diarrhea
* Unexplained rash

If your child only has 1 of the above listed symptoms such as diarrhea, vomiting or fever-They may return to school after 24 hours of being symptom free without taking any fever reducers (Tylenol Motrin etc.).
Please do not dose your son with pain relievers/fever reducers and send them to school, as this exposes everybody to unnecessary health risks.

The State of Pennsylvania requires all senior students to have a 2nd Meningitis vaccine after their 16th birthday. Any senior who has not received the MCV4# 2 will not be permitted to attend school after November 9,2020.

All 9th & 11th grade students should have a current physical along with updated immunizations on record in the nurse's office. Please submit all information as soon as possible.

The student Emergency/Medical information form needs to be completed, for all students, every year. This form is located on the Father Judge website and needs to be submitted at the beginning of every school year. If you have not done so already, please submit the information as soon as possible.
The flu vaccine is more important than ever during 2020-2021 to protect yourself and the people around you.The Center For Disease Control recommends that:
Everyone 6 months and older should get a flu vaccine every season with rare exceptions. Vaccination is particularly important for people who are at high risk of serious complications from influenzaPeople at High Risk of Developing Flu-Related Complications has a full list of age and health factors that confer increased risk.
Flu vaccination has important benefits. It can reduce flu illnesses, doctors’ visits, and missed work and school due to flu, as well as prevent flu-related hospitalizations and deaths.
Different flu vaccines are approved for use in different groups of people.
There are many vaccine options to choose from. CDC does not recommend one flu vaccine over another. The most important thing is for all people 6 months of age and older to get a flu vaccine every year.
If you have questions about which flu vaccine to get, talk to your doctor or other health care professional.
