climate action alert!
A regional resource for Cape & Islands climate activists June 26, 2020
We mentioned this yesterday but it's now apparent that this is so important that we are asking for your help - and giving you some resources!. As you may know, the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) is holding a series of virtual hearings on the Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Vineyard Wind project. This is a critically important moment in the development of clean, renewable offshore wind in and for our region. If those who continue to oppose this project, and offshore wind generally, are successful at stopping this project, others will also be imperiled. That would mean that our chances, as a region, of moving beyond dependence on fossil fuel energy sources could well evaporate. We simply can not let that happen.

Now is the time for each of us to step up, when it counts, and support the Vineyard Wind project. Please make a point of attending one of these hearings and speaking out in support of the Vineyard Wind. You don't need to be representing or affiliated with an organization - it is fine for you to speak out and speak up just representing yourself. Every single voice counts in this (literally!).

Please tell BOEM why offshore wind is so important to you-- as a Cape Codder, parent, scientist, engineer, business person, faith community member, or young person who deserves a safe planet. Remind them that wind is our region's greatest energy asset, and represents great economic opportunity here on Cape Cod. The alternative? More dirty fossil fuel plants and pipelines in black and brown communities.

We’ve learned that it is most important for people to show up for the hearings TONIGHT AND TOMORROW. Opponents of clean offshore wind are rallying their troops to show up in opposition to the project. BOEM needs to hear from hundreds of us! Don't allow vocal naysayers to overwhelm the conversation. Can you help? This is an all hands moment!

We’ve put together the attached list of suggested talking points, along with some background and contextual information for your use. Please sign up for one (or more) of the planned hearings and select and personalize the talking points that best reflect your position.

Thank you in advance for supporting Vineyard Wind, and clean, renewable offshore wind energy!
