Thanks to loyal donors like you, this summer The Brotherhood/Sister Sol (Bro/Sis) was able to move into our transitional housing location and this fall we began construction of our new 20,000 square foot state of the art youth development center. It is a season of evolution and growth at Bro/Sis.
As we move forward into this new season, our critical work of providing comprehensive support services, guidance, education, unconditional love as well as opportunities and access to the youth of New York City must continue. We would like to bring into focus two of our programs that have seen substantial growth – our After School Elementary Program (ASPE) and Liberation Program (LP). With this expansion in membership, our need for program-specific funding is that much more necessary.
This year we ask that when you make your end of year gift, you consider directing it towards these programs.
Our ASPE program serves children ages 8 to 12 and operates five days a week. When members arrive, they receive a nutritious meal and time to focus on homework. They participate in a variety of enrichment activities such as visual arts, capoeira, STEM, and nutrition and cooking. They build a code of ethics as they learn, play and build friendships.
Our LP is designed for young people ages 14 to 18 who demonstrate an interest in community organizing. Members participate in a series of leadership trainings during the summer, and graduate into The Liberation Collective – the leadership and organizing body of LP. Through the arts and activism, our members learn to advocate for themselves, their communities and their peers; affect public policy at the local level; and become community activists and social change makers.
Participation in these programs helps young people build character, self-awareness, cultural pride, and responsibility to self and community. They are transformed by being empowered.
To learn more about how our members achieve meeting their goals,
Thank you in advance for donating to Bro/Sis.
Your gift today will go a long way in helping us to achieve our vision of building bright futures for and with our young people.
