Please Suspend Your Irrigation During and After Rainfall Events

Recent showers have provided much of the moisture our landscapes should need for the next few days. Please suspend your irrigation for a few days now to reduce any unnecessary irrigation.

  1. Check that your rain shut-off switch is suspending your irrigation automatically when it rains (adjustments are often needed)
  2. If you don’t have a rain shut-off switch, turn your controller off manually

Watering Non-Functional Turf is Restricted

At Commercial, Institutional, Industrial, & within Home Owner's Association areas

Emergency drought regulations that prohibit the irrigation of non-functional turf at commercial, industrial, and institutional sites, as well as common areas maintained by Homeowners' Associations (HOAs) are still in effect.

Non-functional turf is defined as solely ornamental and not used regularly for human recreational purposes or community events.

The State Water Board encourages people to reduce turf irrigation on all properties, residential and non-residential, and to convert turf to California-friendly landscaping. Incentives to replace turf are available.

Summer is a Great Time to Replace Your Lawn

MCWD Offers Incentives up to $1.50 per Square Foot for Replacement

Watering a large lawn can be expensive! For customers with lawns, it is common to see that over 50% of their water use goes onto the lawn. The irrigation of lawns often results in most of their water being billed at the highest water cost tier.

The replacement of your lawn with drought tolerant plants can reduce landscape water demand by 77%! Additional water savings can be achieved by replacing lawns with zero water use alternatives like decorative rock or artificial grass.

MCWD’s incentives may help get your lawn replacement project jump-started.* Learn more about program details by following the link below or contact our staff at conservation@mcwd.org.

*Please note that your project must be pre-approved before any work to replace your lawn can begin.
