Latest Legislative Update
AB 479 (Nazarian) California Plant-Based School Food and Beverage Program
Earlier this month, AB 479 overcame another legislative hurdle by passing the Senate Education Committee. However, California has approved its next budget, and this new program was not included this time. So instead of trying to push the bill through this year without dedicated funding to implement the program, Assemblymember Nazarian is turning AB 479 into a two-year bill. That means the bill will stay alive, and we will work hard between now and next spring to urge Governor Newsom and legislative leaders to allocate funding in the budget for the California Plant-Based School Food and Beverage Program.
