Dear Saint Andrew Families,
Welcome to the 4th week of Lent. The Lenten season is going by quickly and so is the end of the school year. Please be advised that the academic calendar for 2019-2020 will be going out soon. Anticipate August 12, 2019 to be the first day of school. More detailed information will be forthcoming.
We continue the Lenten season with Stations of the Cross and with $2.00 Denim Fridays to support “Educate the Children Honduras.” If your child prefers not to wear jeans, a donation to this cause would be greatly appreciated. Speaking of cause, our students are doubling on their service projects this Lenten season by donating the money they would have spent on a soft drink to help build water wells in Africa. Thank you for helping us live our mission “to nurture a sense of service” in our students and school community.
Please join us for Mass at 8:15 a.m. tomorrow morning in the gym. Our 5th grade students will be in charge of the liturgy and Fr. John Shanahan will be our celebrant.
Last but not least, we will be hosting a Talent Show this Thursday, the 28th, at 1:30 p.m. and at 6 p.m. Good luck to all of our Wildcat participants!
God bless you and your beautiful families,
Mrs. Macias 😊

WELCOME TO DESTINY DISCOVER!
A New Way to Explore the Library and Information
|
|
I am pleased to announce that we are now using our new circulation system, Follett Destiny. Our students have been learning how to navigate our new online catalog and all the extra features it has to offer. This week, they are learning how to “self-checkout” with the Follett Destiny app. This allows our students to have more independence and responsibility for their accounts.
|
|
Our new system is web based, so it allows our students to extend their library search outside of school. To access Follett Destiny at home, please go to
https://standrewsch.follettdestiny.com/.
From there, you will see our home page.
They can click on the St. Andrew Catholic School link and it will take them to the basic catalog page. If they click on the tab “Destiny Discover” located at the left- hand bar, they will be able to explore new links and information offered by Follett Destiny.
|
|
Students will need to log in (located at the top right of the screen) to access the features offered. They will log in using their Microsoft Office 365 username and password. Most students have used their login before. The format will be as follows:
Username: First name.last name
Password: First three letters of last name#####
Example: John.Smith
Smi123456
|
|
Teachers will be able to provide this log- in information if your student does not remember it. I also have a list of the student’s log- in information and will be happy to provide it to you.
When they log in, they will be able to explore what is in the library, place holds, leave reviews and much more. We have access to some free interactive books, e-books through GALE, and links to websites like NASA, National Geographic Kids, Accuweather plus much more! As with any website, please be sure to monitor your students while on the internet for age- appropriate content.
I hope you will take time to explore the different options we have with our new system. The library will continue to provide new ways to engage each student, promote information literacy, and promote a love of reading! Enjoy exploring with Follett Destiny!
Blessings,
Ms. Julie Alvarez
Librarian

CALL FOR NOMINATIONS
Deadline: April 1, 2019
Do you know of, work with, or have heard the story of a North Texas teacher whose efforts in the classroom have greatly impacted their students, community, or school?
To celebrate Teacher Appreciation week, May 6
th
-10
th
, 2019, the North Texas Helpful Honda people will be honoring and surprising three deserving teachers with a new class room makeover (approximately $5,000 of supplies/needs per teacher)! We want to identify teachers in schools across the North Texas area who have gone above and beyond to give their students a memorable and unmatched educational experience –
and we need your help!
We want to make this recognition a surprise, so we rely on colleagues, parents or friends, etc. to help make this happen – and not to tell the nominee in advance – this way, it’s a true surprise.
HOW TO SUBMIT A DESERVING TEACHER:
Please email
[email protected]
to receive a simple questionnaire about the candidate to be filled by you or someone who works closely with him/her so they are not privy to the nomination. You are invited to submit more than one teacher (please submit each teacher separately).

Check out how we’ve surprised deserving teachers in the North Texas area:

The Spiritual Life Committee at Saint Andrew Catholic School offers two blessed statues to its families: A statue of Rosa Mystica and an Immaculate Heart of Mary Statue.
Each week (from Wednesday afternoon to the following Wednesday morning) two families will have the opportunity to take these statues home and use them as a source of inspiration, prayer and reflection. The tote bag containing the statue will also have suggested prayers. This special tradition will hopefully be one full of meaning and faith for each of you.
