Dear Saint Andrew Families,

I hope all our mothers enjoyed their Mother’s Day weekend! We continue to celebrate the liturgical season of Easter with joy and wonder in our hearts.

Please join us for Mass tomorrow at 8:15 a.m. Fr. John Shanahan will be our presider. Our NJHS and Student Council members will help with the celebration of the liturgy.  Our students in 4K will attend Mass on Thursday at 8:00 a.m.  Thank you for sending your students to school earlier than usual on Mass days.

I am very pleased to announce that we raised the following amounts for the different service projects this year: Educate the Children Honduras - $3,709.80; The Water Project - $2,851.30; and Pennies for Patients - $495.17. Thank you for your kindness and generous support. Speaking of kindness, I also want to thank you for donating toiletries and other items to the Migrant and Refugee Services of El Paso, TX. I had the privilege of taking all donated items on Saturday morning and was given a tour of the shelter at the Pastoral Center of the Diocese of El Paso. I was able to visit with the people there but was not allowed to take pictures of them. I was told by the person who received me that the shelter receives between 80 to 100 people a day. The shelter is considered a “holding shelter” (two days maximum) where migrants and refugees are given a warm meal, a clean pair of clothes, a warm shower/bath, a physical, and a “care package” to take on their way into the country to meet family members or a sponsor family.  There were many males with small children. The youngest child was a four-month-old. When asked why they risked their lives to come to the U.S., they say that it is because they are starving to death in their countries and want to work to send money home to their families. It was a humbling experience; one I will never forget.  Thank you, once again, for allowing me to take you with me with your donations, prayers, and lovely cards of encouragement that Mrs. Kinsey’s class wrote.

Please look at your Wildcat Weekly for exciting end of year events. Thank you for continuing to pray for our beautiful Wildcat students, faculty, staff and families. I am blessed to serve as your Principal.

May God bless you and your beautiful families,

Mrs. Olga C. Macias
Principal

WE ARE SO PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS!!
Students qualify for the 7th Grade Talent Search by scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test. Enrollment provides benefits that last through the end of high school, including the opportunity to take the ACT or SAT, specialized publications, college prep advice, and access to educational programs.

This year, SAS had a number of students who took the ACT or SAT and qualified at the State level: Sadie Ashton, Nico Castillo, Abigail Cawyer, Tyler Cleveland, Nayeli Flores, Clarissa Martinez, Rebeca Pierce-Kondratowitch, Isabelle Saffell, Penelope Sauer, Alyssa Shearer, Jude White. These students scored better than College bound high school juniors and seniors. These 11 students were honored at TCU on May 6 as state Duke scholars.

SAS also had 3 seventh grade students who qualified as Grand Scholars. These students scored as well as high school scholarship students and are invited to Duke University in North Carolina. They are the top 4% of the Duke student testers.
They are: Abigail Cawyer, Tyler Cleveland, and Jude White.

All of these students are invited to many accelerated summer institutes weekends at various colleges, such as SMU and Texas A & M,. at their own expense.

CONGRATULATIONS!!!

NOTES FROM THE NURSES
Spring is here! That means the end of the school year is just around the corner. With that in mind there are some “housekeeping” items that we wanted to remind you of:

1. Medication stored in the clinic MUST be picked up by a parent or guardian on or before the last day of school. Medication not picked up by May 30, 2019 will be taken to a pharmacy for proper and safe disposal.

2. To keep medication in the school clinic for the 2019/20 school year, whether prescription or over-the-counter, a diocesan medication permit MUST be on file in the clinic. Medication permits must be signed by your child’s physician and one parent. Without this permit, medication cannot be stored in nor administered through the clinic. All medication must be in the original packaging, and have the prescription label attached.

3. If your child has food or environmental allergies with risk of anaphylaxis, a Food Allergy Action Plan, medication permit, AND epinephrine (EpiPen, etc.) MUST be on campus prior to your child starting school and in order for your child to remain in school.

4. Medication permits and Food Allergy Action Plans can be obtained from the school and must be filled out completely. These forms are also available on the school website. There are 2 pages to the Food Allergy Action plan. Please complete both. A student photo in the top right corner of page one is required

5. Any time your child receives any immunizations, please provide a copy of the immunization record to the school nurse. All incoming 7th grade students are required to have a Tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap) booster within the last 5 years, as well as one Meningococcal (MCV4) vaccine. All incoming Kindergarten students will need completed Tdap, MMR, and Varicella. Please provide a copy of the record to the school prior to the first day of school in August.

6. If your 5th-8th grade student will play a sport, or 4th grade student will play football in the upcoming school year, a physical is required. Physicals must be done on or after June 1, 2019. Physicals done prior to this date cannot be accepted.

Thank you for allowing us to care for your students this year.
