To our customers, we appreciate the opportunity to serve you! We will always do our best! Our goal is to strive to make a difference in people’s lives every day.
THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Summer greetings from San Antonio,Texas! We are honored to have you as part of the Donald L. Mooney Enterprises (DME) team. During this time of the year, all of us travel and engage in many outdoor activities. Please remember - SAFETY FIRST! Don’t drink or text while driving, wear seatbelts, and don’t leave children or pets in the car. Enjoy the great outdoors but always be safe and look out for each other. Check out our newsletter for some additional safety tips. Thank you for your hard work, dedication, and “Making a Difference in People’s Lives Every Day.”

Kevin Kline, President
Additional Summer Safety Tips:

  1. Beat The Heat: Take breaks and drink lots of water.
  2. Bug Safety: Mosquitoes can cause a number of illnesses, including Zika and West Nile Virus. Use an EPA approved insect repellent and wear long-sleeve shirts and long pants.
  3. Water Safety: Never swim alone. If you get caught in a current, don't try to fight it, stay calm and float with it or swim parallel to the shore until you can swim free of the current.
  4. Bicycling: Wear a helmet, watch for traffic, wear reflective gear at night, use a rear view mirror, a bright headlight and have a horn or a bell mounted on your handle bars.
  5. Distracted walking is on the rise due to people focusing on their phones. Put your phone away when you are walking near traffic. Don't wear headphones that might prevent you from hearing an oncoming vehicle. Wear bright and/or reflective clothing. Be alert.

The Story Begins in Nairobi, Kenya in 2007
Kenton Lee was out walking one day with the kids and noticed a little girl in a white dress had shoes that were too small for her feet. An idea was born! Visit the link below to read the story.

Waverly Labs has created wireless earbuds that will eliminate language barriers. The Pilot looks like standard wireless earbuds. They fit snugly in the ear and can also be used to play music on your phone.

Waverly Labs claims that they can translate languages in real time, allowing conversations between two people who speak different languages.

The app is available for both iOS and Android devices. Using the app, you can select a "source language" and a "target language" before starting a conversation. Once you are ready to start translating, you can press the microphone and simply start speaking or you can type into the app.

Currently the Pilot can translate between 15 different languages.

If you want to have a conversation with someone else, simply share one of your earbuds, you wear one and the other person wears one.

When one person starts talking in their own language, the buds will pick it up. The conversation is sent through the app where it is translated into the other speaker's language. The other person will then hear the translation in their own earbud!

Currently, they have pre-orders at a price tag of $250 with 27,000 units sold.

Just think how this technology could change our ability to communicate. The healthcare industry could benefit when a healthcare provider is unable to communicate with a patient or the patient's family member.

CINCO DE MAYO
We Never Miss An Opportunity To Celebrate!
Hey, did you wash your hands recently? Well, you probably did it wrong.  CNN pointed out  a recent government study found that 97 percent of the time, people fail to properly wash their hands—a problem that can lead to all sorts of unnecessary illnesses being spread.
According to the US Department of Agriculture , people are falling short of meeting the standards for acceptable handwashing set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The bar to make sure your hands are sufficiently clean requires you to wash and scrub with soap for at least 20 seconds.
The study looked at 363 people in six kitchen test facilities located in the Raleigh-Durham region of North Carolina and in the town of Smithfield, North Carolina. What it found was nearly every person working in the kitchens failed to reach the handwashing standard set by the CDC, which is probably not reassuring if you’re currently out to eat at a restaurant in Tar Heel State.
In addition to not properly washing their hands, the  USDA reported  that “numerous” participants inexplicably didn’t even bother to dry their hands after washing them, which is like...what? Are you just air-drying your hands while working with food? Don’t do that.
While falling a couple of seconds short of the recommended time doesn’t seem like it’d be all that bad, the study showed just how easily poor hygiene can compound into other problems. According to the USDA, participants managed to spread bacteria to spice containers while preparing burgers about half of the time when they failed to wash their hands. Eleven percent of the time, those involved in the study spread bacteria to refrigerator handles.
“You can’t see, smell or feel bacteria,” Carmen Rottenberg, acting deputy undersecretary for food safety at the USDA, said in a  statement . “By simply washing your hands properly, you can protect your family and prevent that bacteria from contaminating your food and key areas in your kitchen.”
Perhaps the only thing more shocking than the fact that 97 percent of people involved in the study washed their hands wrong is the fact that we’ve all apparently gotten worse at this basic bit of hygiene over time. A  2013 study  conducted by Michigan State University found just five percent of people washed their hands correctly, which is nearly twice the success rate of the USDA study.
So how exactly do you wash your hands properly? Here’s the  CDC’s guide :
Wet your hands with clean, running water (warm or cold), turn off the tap, and apply soap.
Lather your hands by rubbing them together with the soap. Be sure to lather the backs of your hands, between your fingers, and under your nails.
Scrub your hands for at least 20 seconds. Need a timer? Hum the “Happy Birthday” song from beginning to end twice.
Rinse your hands well under clean, running water.
Dry your hands using a clean towel or air dry them.
