Collette Flanagan Founder, Mothers Against Police BrutalityRemarks before the United Nations Human Rights CouncilOctober 3, 2022
I’d like to thank President Villegas and the Human Rights Council for inviting me here today. I founded Mothers Against Police Brutality because a police officer in Dallas, Texas, killed my son, my only son, Clinton Allen. A 25-year-old Black father of twin infant boys, Clinton was unarmed that night in March 2013, when a Dallas officer shot him seven times – five times in the chest, once in his raised left arm, and once in the back at close range.

National Domestic Violence Awareness
and Prevention Month 2022
By the President of the United States of America
While our Nation has made significant progress in addressing domestic violence by responding to the stories and leadership of courageous survivors, as well as through advocacy and legislative action, domestic violence nonetheless remains all too common in America. During National Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month, we continue to shine a light on the causes of this scourge, strengthen the ability of Federal, State, Tribal, territorial, and local officials to take action, and call on all communities to strengthen prevention efforts.

OUR VOICES:
Concerning The Homelessness
|
By Dr. John E. Warren
The San Diego Regional Task Force on Homelessness with its San Diego City and County Continuum of Care is to be commended for the substance and level of involvement of community and its presentation of the historical context responsible for the disparities that have contributed to much of our homelessness among Black people, both here in San Diego and throughout the United States. The historical context of the report is without apology, as it should be. The community engagement and methodology through the use of focus groups consisting of those who have experienced or are experiencing homelessness is crucial to presenting so much of what has been an untold story of discrimination, even today, by the very people who are supposed to be providing assistance to the unsheltered.

Cleveland Has Spent Millions on Police Cameras. Why Are the Locations a Secret?
|
Black Headline News

The Cleveland Observer
By Rachel Dissell & Mark Puente
Officials cite citizen safety as a reason for shielding information, but have no policies on use of surveillance technology. Cleveland has spent at least $7 million to dot the city with about 1,500 surveillance cameras since 2007. It’s poised to invest nearly $4.7 million for 300 more, and fix or replace nearly 40 that are old or damaged. Unlike other cities, Cleveland officials have refused to share with taxpayers two key pieces of information: where the cameras are, and how they’re used.

Moving America forward requires common sense, courage and leadership
This is how we get big things done.
|
By William McKenzie
Joe Lieberman and Will Hurd approach politics with the same orientation: The political arena is a place to get things done, especially big things. Lieberman is a former Democratic vice presidential nominee who later became an independent in his last term as a Connecticut senator, while Hurd is a former Republican congressman from Texas. Their shared view of governing and leadership should not sound earth-shattering, but their common pursuit runs afoul of today’s partisan politics.

THE BROOKLYN NETS HAVE 99 PROBLEMS AND ACCOUNTABILITY IS NO. 1
|
Black Headline News
www.bhnnow.com
By Ezekiel J. Walker, The Black Wallstreet Times
The Brooklyn Nets big 3 of Kevin Durant, Ben Simmons, and Kyrie Irving are like that kid who has all the potential in the world, and if only he or she would focus, they could be great beyond measure. As the NBA gears up for its upcoming 2022-2023 season, the superstar create-a-team looks like a juggernaut on paper but as sports often remind us – games aren’t played on paper – they’re played with people and each of the Nets veteran big 3 brings their own baggage to Brooklyn.
