Dreams

by Nikki Giovanni

in my younger years

before i learned

black people aren’t

suppose to dream

i wanted to be

a raelet

and say “dr o wn d in my youn tears”

or “tal kin bout tal kin bout”

or marjorie hendricks and grind

all up against the mic

and scream

“baaaaaby nightandday

baaaaaby nightandday”

then as i grew and matured

i became more sensible

and decided i would

settle down

and just become

a sweet inspiration

TCS News

Center Field Day is this Week

Center Field Day is this Wed, Feb 9! Students will sign up for workshops during MASH on Mon and Tue. You can also get more information and sign up here.

Center Field Day is an annual community-building day organized and led by The Center Field Day Subcommittee, an official body of ASB. CFD 2022 will feature a virtual keynote speaker along with two workshops that students will sign up for in advance. Workshops in the first session are serious, often focusing on education or social justice topics. Workshops in the second session are fun and can be pretty much anything that follows school rules and COVID-19 district policies. We hope to improve community connections and provide opportunities for students to socialize across grades, classes, and interests.

Upcoming FAFSA/WASFA Workshops

Learn how to complete the FAFSA or WASFA to request financial aid for college at an upcoming workshop. You are required to complete the 2022/23 FAFSA or WASFA by Apr 30, 2022 for Seattle Promise.

If you have already completed the 2022/23 FAFSA or WASFA, please double check that you included North, Central, or South Seattle College.

Upcoming Workshops:

Sign up to attend a workshop.

What should I bring to the FAFSA/WASFA workshop?

  • 2020 tax information, 1040 tax returns and W2s, for you and your parents/guardians (if applicable)
  • Social Security Number, A Number, or ITIN for you and your parents/guardians (if applicable, you do not need to have a Social Security Number to be eligible for financial aid). See examples of what these documents look like.
  • Bring your parent or guardian if you can. The FAFSA and WASFA require information from you and your parent/guardian, it is helpful to sit down together to complete the process.

Can't make it? Check for upcoming workshops here or ask the outreach specialist at your high school. Additional workshops with interpretation in Spanish, Vietnamese, Somali, Amharic, Tigrinya, and Cantonese will be coming up in Mar.

SAT Student/Family Survey

TCS families, please take approximately 3 minutes to complete the SAT Student/Family survey to help SPS leadership make informed decisions about the school-day SAT. Please complete the survey by midnight Wed, Feb 9.

  3. Student support and advising beginning in the junior year of high school and lasting through completion of a degree, certificate, credential or transfer to a four-year institution.

CSCA

2021/22 Annual Fund Success

The CSCA would like to thank all the families who donated to the Annual Fund this year. We raised $10,070.59 and met our $10,000 goal, and there are still monthly contributions trickling in! Knowing that we are in a time of financial instability, meeting our fund-raising goal is evidence of the strength of the Center School community. Thank you for your generous financial support during this tumultuous time. Through your donations the CSCA will continue to support drama, writers in the school, guest artists and speakers, instructional materials, family support fund, senior prep consulting, teacher appreciation, school events, and much more in the coming year.

Create a great offer by adding words like "free" "personalized" "complimentary" or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take an action, so think about inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining"!
