December 2017
As 2017 draws to a close, we are filled with gratitude
for your support of our mission... Our Pledge to Humanity!
We believe that when children and young adults lead the effort
to make a difference, their experience - from inception to reflection - is transformative. They grow into empathetic leaders who embrace lifelong commitment to service.
Collecting Halloween costumes for children in need.
Organizing a lemonade stand for

Gala 2017 was a Night to Remember!
Pledge to Humanity hosted its 9th Annual Gala at The Blackhawk Museum in Danville, California, on September 9th.

Proceeds from the Gala provide a critical funding source for our local and global initiatives. We are thrilled to share that together we raised a record-breaking $280,000!!

This December, the PTH Board of Directors unanimously agreed to equitably fund global and local initiatives in 2018. This will include continuing PTH commitment to education in Irkaat, Kenya, through 2019. In addition, PTH will expand financial support to local initiatives in order to meet the growing demand of our 2,500 Youth Ambassadors and their efforts in those causes which mean most to them. Your support makes our work possible... thank you!!

To enjoy more pictures, please visit our Gala Album on Facebook and we hope to see you next year at Gala 2018!!

Beth McKnight ~ 2017 Volunteer of the Year
This past September, Pledge to Humanity recognized Beth McKnight as the first recipient of the Volunteer of the Year Award. In many ways, this was an award which PTH could have presented to Beth in any one of the 4 years that she has been involved with the organization.

From the very beginning, Beth has been a valued volunteer and friend. In 2014, Beth launched the PTH Club at San Ramon Valley High School.
T oday , San Ramon Valley is PTH’s largest high school club with 225 volunteers and a robust waitlist. In 2016, the San Ramon Youth Ambassadors logged 3,500 volunteer hours. They are on track to finish 2017 will record-breaking totals.

“I see the value that that these teens get from volunteering and from the feeling that they are helping others," shares Beth. "I see them finding their own ways to give back and that has been incredibly rewarding for me.” Pledge to Humanity is honored to stand among volunteers like Beth McKnight who empower future generations to give from the heart.

Sending gently-used sports equipment to Project Open Arms.
In 2018, Pledge to Humanity will celebrate its 10th year of service.

Globally, we will complete Phase 2 and break ground on Phase 3 of our education partnership with WE Charities in Irkaat, Kenya. This project will culminate in 13 sustainable classrooms that will accommodate 585 children. In addition, PTH has funded a playground, library, kitchen, latrines, an administration block for 12 educators, teacher accommodations, a clean water/sanitation program as well as provided the school community with 30 goats. In 2017, 30 PTH Ambassadors were able to see the progress. We hope to return to Irkaat to see the completion in 2019.

Locally, in summer 2018, we will pilot three new PTH Clubs at Aim High , a free summer learning and enrichment program in the Bay Area that expands opportunities for low-income middle school students in high needs communities. At Pledge to Humanity, we feel a strong commitment to inspire EVERY child to give of themselves regardless of their socio-economic background.

And, of course, we will continue to work alongside our Pledge to Humanity volunteers - over 2,500 Youth Ambassadors - who come from schools throughout the 680 corridor and who volunteer thousands of hours locally. To date, our Youth Ambassadors are part of:

  • PTH Schools - these are both public and private schools who have partnered with Pledge to Humanity to help fulfill their service philosophies;
  • PTH Clubs - these are high school student-run organizations in both public and private schools who have chosen to focus on service
  • PTH Groups - these are groups of friends who come together after-school to fulfill volunteer service.

Irkaat, Kenya - June 2017
Every Gift Makes A Difference

Pledge to Humanity
actively engages Youth Ambassadors
to identify needs in their community, create a plan of action, and ultimately, reflect on their service.

We understand that, from inception to reflection,
the volunteer focus can be deeply personal
and takes on issues of hunger, homelessness,
and other social injustices.

Most of all, we are deeply inspired every day to see
ordinary children doing extraordinary things.

During this season of giving, please consider
making a gift to Pledge to Humanity
that will support youth volunteers and their effort to change the world... one pledge at a time!!

India, Here We Come...
On June 15, 2018, a Pledge to Humanity volunteer contingency will depart the Bay Area en route to the Rajasthan Province by way of Udaipur, India.

This two week adventure of a life-time will be filled with hands-on volunteering opportunities as well as unique cultural experiences and leadership skill building modules.
A highlight of the trip will be the opportunity to visit the school community that PTH sponsored and helped to build during our last visit in 2015 (see video above). Today, 450 children attend "our" schools made possible through our global initiatives. In addition to the classrooms, Pledge to Humanity sponsored latrines and handwashing stations.

The June 2018 PTH trip to India is open to families looking for an immersive experience. Space is limited. For more information, please contact us at info@pledgetohumanity.org .
PTH: Empowering Changemakers

The story of Bobby's Bandaid Brigade begins in 2012 when Bobby was just 4-years-old.

One day, his father asked him to fill a bag with toys to give to needy children. When the first bag was full, Bobby asked his father, Mark, for another bag. Mark was so proud to see his son emulating the giving he had modeled throughout his own life and knew instantly that he wanted to expand his 4-year-old's natural curiosity. Soon, Bobby was collecting toys annually. A chance meeting with Gaby was the start of a life-long friendship.

Pledge to Humanity sponsored a truck to carry boxes of toys to Project Open Arms in Mexico. The following year, Bobby collected art supplies for the pediatric ward at Children's Hospital in Oakland. A family friend told Bobby about Chipper Bear, a bear used by first responders to bring comfort to children during CHP rescues. Bobby was saddened to hear that the CHP was running low on supply and that many first responder vehicles were not equipped with this invaluable tool...that set the ball in motion.

Today, Bobby is a 9-years old student at Rancho Romero - a PTH School. Since he first heard about Chipper, his goal was to raise enough money to outfit each of the CHP's 1,200 first responder vehicles with a teddy bear. With Pledge to Humanity's guidance, he did just that and, most recently, he met with decision-makers at Crunch Fitness who agreed to become Bobby's Bandaid Brigade's corporate sponsors. Crunch Fitness will sponsor all the teddy bears needed for California as well as New York.

What's next for Bobby's Bandaid Brigade? Bobby wants to supply each state with enough teddy bears to ride-along in every Highway Patrol First Responder Vehicle throughout the USA. To read more about Bobby's Bandaid Brigade, please visit here .
