Sunday, March 1: Evangelism Chapel Class

For two weeks, Rev. Murphy will be leading Chapel class on the theme of “Evangelism.” What is it? What are ways it’s been hurtful? What are ways it’s been helpful? If we agree that we have good news worth sharing, how might we go about doing that? Come learn, talk, and hopefully, share!

Chapel Class is open to all adults at 9:00 am every Sunday, in person or on zoom. The password for zoom is 247302.

Sunday, March 1 - Thoughts & Facts from the Anti-Racism Action Team

"The opposite of racist isn't not racist. It is anti-racist. One endorses either the idea of a racial hierarchy as a racist, or racial equality as an anti-racist. One either believes that racial inequities are rooted in groups of people as a racist, or locates the roots of racial inequities in power and policies as an anti-racist. One either allows racial injustice to persevere as a racist, or confronts racial injustice as an anti-racist. There is no in-between safe space of 'not racist'."

-- Ibram X. Kendi

Sunday, March 1 - Lenten Reflection from the Green Team

DURING LENT, THE GREEN TEAM ASKS THAT WE LOOK AT THE LAND, WATER, AND NATURE THAT SURROUND US, AND TO LEARN NOT ONLY THE HISTORY, BUT OUR RESPONSIBILITY IN HONORING AND CARING FOR IT.

The confluence of the three rivers (Maumee, St. Joseph, St. Mary’s) was important for

the Miami people at Kekionga, as the rivers provided food, fresh water, and

transportation. It was also a natural gathering place for diplomacy, trade and

community life.

The three rivers connects two major watersheds: the Great Lakes via the Maumee to

Lake Erie, and the Mississippi River system via portage to the Wabash and Ohio rivers.

The three rivers held great military and colonial importance, as well as control and

trade. Later, the city of Fort Wayne developed from the growth in commerce and

agriculture.

Today, there is a needed focus on environmental restoration and conservation of these

waters that have been a huge part of our history.

WE GIVE THANKS FOR THE WATERS THAT HAVE PROVIDED SO MUCH TO US, AND VOW TO PROTECT THEM FROM HARM.

The St. Marys River (left) and St. Joseph River (right) converge to create the Maumee River.

February 25 - April 1 - Lenten Book Study

We continue our weekly Lenten book study with How to be an Antiracist, by Ibram X Kendi. This week we will be discussing chapters 3-5.

This study, led by Reverend Timothy, continues through April 1, meeting every Wednesday at 5:15 pm in the Chapel.

The book is available at local bookstores, for order online, or for checkout through Allen County Public Library.

Sunday, March 1 - Church Building Tour

You may be able to find the Sanctuary and Folsom Room without too much trouble, but what about the staff offices? The education wing? The second fellowship hall in the basement or Youth Lounge? Have you ever seen the boiler room or where we store seasonal decorations or the digital organ speakers? It’s been a year since our last building tour, so Rev. Murphy will be offering once again after worship on Sunday, March 1. This tour will last about 20-30 minutes. We are canceling the bonus tour of the antic space above the Sanctuary on account of the weather. Rev. Murphy tested it and the metal rungs of the ladder are very cold right now, resulting in numb hands. We may offer that option when springtime rolls around and it’s warmer. Sign-up is not required for the Sunday tour. Just plan to gather in the Narthex that day, with the tour beginning 15 minutes after worship concludes.

March 1-6 - Plymouth Meals for Just Neighbors

Plymouth's next week to serve dinner at Just Neighbors shelter is coming up starting on Sunday, March 1. Plymouth folks are encouraged to sign up to bring either a main course, side dish, salad or desert on any night that week. If you would like to help, you can sign up online at the link below. Thanks in advance for your help in this important ministry!

Wednesday, March 4 - Wednesday Night Live

Wednesday Night Live programming continues this Wednesday. At 5:00 pm there will be adult choir rehearsal. At 5:15 pm there will be Lenten Book Study with Rev. Timothy, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm. Handbells will meet at 6:30 pm. All activities are open to anyone in the church, regardless of membership status. Come for activities or just come for dinner and fellowship! The suggested cost for dinner is $10 per person, though no one will be turned away due to the inability to pay. If you plan to come for dinner, please sign up in the Folsom Room in advance so our caterer knows how much food to prepare. Hope to see you there!

The passcode to join the book study on Zoom is 773232.

Wednesday, March 4 - Dementia Support Group

Many, if not most of us, will at some point or another have a friend or loved one who is living with dementia. That reality is true for members of Plymouth Church, too. We will begin offering a weekly group on Wednesday nights after Wednesday Night Live dinner for those caring for or in relationship with someone with dementia. This group will be led by Rev. January Simpson and will meet in the Chapel starting at 6:45 pm on March 4. No sign up is required; however, if you will be bringing your loved one with dementia, we do need to know that. They will gather separately so that caregivers can speak openly with each other. Please email and indicate your interest to jls@plymouthfw.org.

Upcoming Events

Sunday, March 15 - Family Social and Bowling at House of Pins

Plymouth families with children under 18 are invited to a social afternoon of bowling, snacks and getting to know one another! We'll have a private room at House of Pins (2010 Sundown Ln, Fort Wayne, IN 46808), Sunday, March 15, 2-5 pm, where we can play and chat. Please RSVP to Katie Watson (kjwatson4@gmail.com).

Tuesday, March 24 - Singing Resistance Gathering

Join fellow Fort Wayne residents for an evening of singing resistance! We will gather for a simple supper and an evening of singing together from 6-8 pm at Plymouth Church. A sign-up sheet is located in the Folsom Room.

Singing Resistance is building a mass movement of singers to protect and care for our communities in the face of rising authoritarianism. We welcome everyone into the movement for collective liberation. We are fighting for a future in which all people - Black, Brown, Indigenous, immigrant, trans, queer, disabled, poor - and the Earth are safe and sovereign. Through song, we can refuse to obey what authoritarianism wants us to do - get small, numb out, and forget. Instead, we will mobilize our communities in public, we will feel, and we will tell the truth of the violence and of the resistance.

Easter Flower Order Form 2026

If you'd like to make flower orders for Easter, the order form is now available at the link below.

Lilies and dwarf yellow daffodils may be purchased for $11. The flowers will be delivered to the church, and may be taken home after Easter service on Sunday, April 5. The deadline for orders will be midnight, Palm Sunday, March 29.

Flowers may be purchased on their own, or dedicated in memory or in celebration of someone. Options for dedications are included in the form.

50th Boar’s Head Celebration

Can you even believe it? Almost 50 years ago, Plymouth Church put on our first Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival. The history of our festival is rich. Over the past 49 years, it’s grown into something magical, not just because of the number of people involved, but because it continues to offer something special during the holiday season to a large following of people in the Fort Wayne area and beyond. Boar’s Head is simply a part of many families' holiday traditions.

Planning for the 50th annual Boar’s Head and Yule Log Festival has begun, and we want this year to be something truly special. We are seeking volunteers to help. Below you will find a list of committees that pertain to different areas of Boar’s Head. If you are interested in helping or if you have any ideas or maybe even some memories of past years to share, please contact the committee chair. We’d love to hear from you!

General Announcements

Pride at Plymouth Task Force Volunteers

Pride at Plymouth will be here in just a few short months. The Evangelism and Marketing Board is recruiting volunteers for a Pride Task Force that will start in March to plan and implement this June event. You do not need to be a church member to join the task force. Anyone is welcome who wants to be part of creating a day that honors our open and affirming covenant. To volunteer or to get more information contact Rev. Sara (smo@plymouthfw.org) or Vicky Pogue (vlpogue@gmail.com).

The Louise Folsom Memorial Library

The Louise Folsom Memorial Library, between the Folsom Room and the church sanctuary, is a fantastic resource and collection of works on theology, bible study, justice, biblical commentary, personal wellness, history and more. Feel free any time to browse the collection. You can also check out books from the library and take them home! Stop in and take a peak after service, or during the church building tour on Sunday, March 1!

Adult Nursery Volunteers Needed

Plymouth is looking for a few more adult volunteers to assist in the nursery on Sunday mornings, starting in the new year. Volunteers are scheduled to assist no more than once a month and are needed during the Sunday morning worship hour. If you would like to help out, please see Rev. Ofner-Seals or email her at smo@plymouthfw.org.

Safety Attendants

The Safety Committee is looking for a few good folks to serve as Safety attendants periodically during worship services. An attendant will greet late comers in the Narthex during worship, be responsible for communicating with the office in the event of a medical emergency or natural disaster, aid in fire and tornado drills, and more. If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please sign up at the following link.

Open Prayer in the Sanctuary

For a time of personal prayer, the sanctuary will be available Tuesday through Thursday during office hours. Please enter through the Berry Street office entrance and check in with our receptionist. Contact Jake Slone at (260) 423-9424 or jss@plymouthfw.org with any questions.
