| | Sunday, May 17 - Chapel Class: Non-Cooperation Training Overview | | |
| | |
Jan Evrard will continue for a second week in leading a review of the Non-Cooperation Training that was originally presented by Ignite Peace in November of last year. This class session will provide an opportunity to learn about the issues of criminal and immigration justice through the frameworks of nonviolence and anti-racism. There will be a review of last week's information, so anyone who was not able to attend the May 10 class will get all the information they need.
Chapel Class is open to all adults at 9:00 am every Sunday, in person or on zoom. The password for zoom is 247302.

| | | | Sunday, May 17 - Anti-Racism Thought of the Week | | |
|
Antiracist Idea: Any notion that suggests that racial groups are equals and none need
developing, which justifies policy focused on creating racial equity and justice.
- Ibram X. Kendi, author of How to Be Anti-Racist
| | | | Tuesday, May 19 – Press Conference and Petition Drop on Firing Squads | | |
| | Our friends at Beacon Heights Church of the Brethren are inviting Plymouth members to an action to oppose a local architecture company, Elevatus, which is working to design a death chamber for a firing squad in Idaho. Pastor Anna Lisa Gross of Beacon Heights will be leading the event outside their downtown Fort Wayne office on Tuesday morning at 10:45 am. After having thousands of emails and hundreds of phone calls of concern ignored (about the new Allen County Jail, Idaho's firing squad chamber and many other prisons and jails), folks will be gathering for a press conference and delivering petitions in person. Showing up with or without a sign (e.g. No Executions) will help amplify the demand. It will be a brief event on a beautiful spring day. Rev. Timothy Murphy will also be in attendance. | | | | Tuesday, May 19 - Women's Book Group | | |
| | |
The Women's Book Group book for this month is Raising Hare: A Memoir by Chloe Dalton.
The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 19 in the Amistad Room at 11:30 am. We welcome anyone who self-identifies as a woman to drop in and join the discussion!
| | | | Wednesday, May 20 - Final Spring Wednesday Night Live | | |
| | |
Wednesday Night Live programming for the spring will conclude this Wednesday. At 5:00 pm there will be adult choir rehearsal. At 5:15 pm there will be Bible Study with Rev. Timothy, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm. Handbells will meet at 6:30 pm. Dementia support group meets at 6:45 pm.
All activities are open to anyone in the church, regardless of membership status. Come for activities or just come for dinner and fellowship! The suggested cost for dinner is $10 per person, though no one will be turned away due to the inability to pay. If you plan to come for dinner, please sign up in the Folsom Room in advance so our caterer knows how much food to prepare. Hope to see you there!
The scripture for this Wednesday is Revelation 7:9-17.
The passcode to join Bible Study on Zoom is 773232.
| | | | Sunday, May 24 - Pentecost Sunday | | |
| | Join us on Sunday, May 24 for a joyful celebration of Pentecost. All are invited to wear the colors of flame -- red, yellow, and orange -- as we celebrate the birth of the Christian church. This is a service not to be missed; we hope to see you there! | | | | Sunday, May 24 - Strengthen the Church Special Offering | | |
| | Strengthen the Church is a mission offering of the United Church of Christ that furthers the work of the Indiana-Kentucky Conference and National Ministries as we work together to strengthen and renew existing congregations, fund leadership development, and provide exciting new programs for youth and young adults. Collected on Pentecost Sunday, this year’s theme is fittingly entitled “Sent Forth in Love”. Divided between the Conference and the National Ministries, this offering is an investment in the future of the United Church of Christ. | | | | Wednesday, May 27 - Maternal Health & Reproductive Access Town Hall | | |
| | |
Across Indiana, families are navigating what it means to thrive during pregnancy, while raising children, and when making deeply personal decisions about their bodies and futures. As we prepare for the next legislative session, we’re bringing neighbors together to talk about what’s happening in our communities, across the state, and around the country.
Indiana Reproductive Health and Access Coalition is hosting a town hall event at Plymouth on Wednesday, May 27 at 6:00 pm, in partnership with All-Options and Planned Parenthood. Whether you’re a new parent, a healthcare provider, someone still forming your opinion, or simply looking to better understand what’s at stake, this event is for you.
| | | | Thursday, May 28 - Khaleel, with Steve Sosebee (Heal Palestine) | | |
| | |
Khaleel, 15, was severely injured on April 22, 2024, when a bomb struck on his way to a Gaza City barber, requiring emergency amputation of both his legs. He also sustained a head injury, now stabilized. His mother and sister are with him in Chicago.
Khaleel will visit Fort Wayne joined by Steve Sosebee, founder of HEAL Palestine, an organization which brings injured young people from Gaza to the US for pro-bono surgery and other medical care. This Indiana Center for Middle East Peace program is free and open to the public at the church on Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 pm.
| | | | June 6-7 - Brian Recker: Deconstructing Fear-Based Religion | | |
| | |
Brian Recker, M.Div, is a public theologian, speaker, and author of the national best-selling Hell Bent: How the Fear of Hell Holds Christians Back from a Spirituality of Love. The son of a Baptist preacher and an alum of the fundamentalist Bob Jones University, he spent eight years as an evangelical pastor before deconstructing his faith to find a more inclusive spirituality. He now speaks about following Jesus without fear of hell on his popular Instagram account and his Substack, Beloved.
Brian will be speaking at Plymouth on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7:
Saturday, June 6, 7:00 pm - Public Talk - 'Deconstructing Fear-Based Religion' - open to the public, suggested donation $10

| | It’s planting time and the Green Team is ready to put some seeds and plants in the raised beds behind the church. If you have extras that you want to donate, please contact Jan Gibson at jsgibson443@gmail.com. We’re interested in vegetables that are easy to pick and share. | | | | Adult Nursery Volunteers Needed | | |
Plymouth is looking for a few more adult volunteers to assist in the nursery on Sunday mornings, starting in the new year. Volunteers are scheduled to assist no more than once a month and are needed during the Sunday morning worship hour. If you would like to help out, please see Rev. Ofner-Seals or email her at smo@plymouthfw.org.
The Safety Committee is looking for a few good folks to serve as Safety attendants periodically during worship services. An attendant will greet late comers in the Narthex during worship, be responsible for communicating with the office in the event of a medical emergency or natural disaster, aid in fire and tornado drills, and more. If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please sign up at the following link. | | | | Open Prayer in the Sanctuary
For a time of personal prayer, the sanctuary will be available Tuesday through Thursday during office hours. Please enter through the Berry Street office entrance and check in with our receptionist. Contact Jake Slone at (260) 423-9424 or jss@plymouthfw.org with any questions.
