| | | | Sunday, May 18 - Annual Ice Cream Social | | |
Please join us after church on Sunday, May 18, for our annual ice cream social to mark the end of the program year and to celebrate the coming summer season. Cake and ice cream will be provided by the Congregational Life Board. All are welcome! | | | | May 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25 - Jesus Christ Superstar
Genesis Outreach Presents: Jesus Christ Superstar - May 16 - 25 at University of Saint Francis North Campus Auditorium!
JCS tells the story of Jesus in the final days leading up to his crucifixion. Loosely based on the Gospels, JCS focuses on the personal conflicts between Jesus, his disciples, the people of Israel, and the leadership of Rome.
JCS feels all too timely in 2025. The show dives into themes like power, influence, faith, public perception - things that we as a nation and a people are grappling with right now. We’re living in an era shaped by social unrest, the rise of political figures, political division, and the examination of institutional power.
Through a contemporary lens we are looking at how society is influenced and controlled by its leaders, questioning authority, and searching for truth in a world of conflicting narratives. This retelling is a mirror, reflected back on our own struggles with faith, identity, influence, and the cost of standing for something in a polarized world.
Tickets can be purchased online at https://our.show/jcs.
| | | | Wednesday, May 21 - Wednesday Night Live Continues | | |
Wednesday Night Live programming will conclude on Wednesday, May 21 and return again in the fall. For this last gathering of the program year, at 5:00 pm there will be adult choir rehearsal and children's choir rehearsal. Bible Study will begin at 5:15 pm, followed by dinner at 6:00 pm. Handbells will meet at 6:30 pm. Cassidy Cwierthia will lead an introduction to worship sign language in the chapel at 7:00 pm. All activities are open to anyone in the church, regardless of membership status. Come for activities, or just come for dinner and fellowship! The suggested cost for dinner is $10 per person, though no one will be turned away due to inability to pay. If you plan to come for dinner, please sign up in the Folsom Room in advance so our caterer knows how much food to prepare. Hope to see you one more time!

| | | | Wednesday, May 21 - Sign Language in Worship | | |
| Are you curiously watching the American Sign Language interpretation during worship? Join Cassidy Cwierthia for this introduction to worship signs. Learn to recognize some common religious signs, and join along in signing the Lord’s Prayer and common songs at 7 pm on Wednesdays in the Chapel. All ages are welcome! | | | | Thursday, May 22 - ICMEP: Myth Matters: Israel & America's Civil Creed | | |
From the Puritan Pilgrims first settlement, they interpreted their life in this country through the lens of the Bible – the ‘New Israel.’ This has become a secular civil creed that uses biblical language and symbols, the heart of American exceptionalism and manifest destiny, now projected onto Israel and its special relationship to the US. American exceptionalism, Israeli exceptionalism, America’s manifest destiny, Israel’s manifest destiny – ONE! Dr. Michael Spath traces this history from the nation’s earliest days to the present. The program will take place in the Plymouth Church Folsom Room on Thursday, May 22 at 6:30 pm and is free and open to the public.
All programs are live-streamed and posted as a video a few days after the event, all on the ICMEP YouTube Channel: youtube.com/@inCMEP/videos
| | | | Wednesday, May 28, June 11, 18, and 25: Progressive Christianity 101 | | |
Rev. Ofner-Seals and Rev. Murphy will be co-leading a four-week series on Wednesday evenings on progressive Christianity starting May 28. The gatherings will meet for one hour starting at 6:00 pm in the Chapel. This educational series is designed for newcomers and anyone who would appreciate a refresher. Topics will include: 1) the authority of the Bible and experience, 2) images of Jesus, what salvation is, and the truth of other religious traditions, 3) different conceptions of God, and 4) the connection of social justice with our understanding of the gospel. We look forward to seeing you there! | | | | Sunday, June 1: Plymouth Anti-Racism History Forum
For the past year, the Anti-Racism Action Team has been reviewing Plymouth’s history from an anti-racist perspective. The team is excited to share its initial findings with the congregation and will do so at an after-church forum on Sunday, June 1. Come hear some of what it has learned as they share why they did this project, how they went about gathering their information, and a selection of what they have learned thus far. Light refreshments will be served. There will be a time for questions at the conclusion of the presentation as well as an update on next steps. | | | | Tuesday, June 17 - Women's Book Study
The Women's Book Study will not be meeting in May while we organize our reading for the following six months. However, you may be interested to know that the books we have chosen are the following:
Girl Braiding Her Hair (Marta Molnar), The Women (Kristin Hannah), The Girl Who Said Goodbye (Heather Allen), The Tobacco Wives (Adele Myers), Doppelganger (Naomi Klein) and The Kingdom, The Power and the Glory (Tim Alberta).
We welcome anyone identifying as a woman to drop in for one session or many as you are interested. We meet in the Amistad Room at noon on the third Tuesday of each month.
| | | | Plymouth Raised Bed Garden Spaces | | |
| The Plymouth raised bed garden spaces are ready for planting and a few good donations would be appreciated. Vegetables that are easy to care for and easy to pick will work best. If you have extra plant starts or seeds to share, please contact Jan Gibson by text (260-348-535) or email (jsgibson443@gmail.com) to arrange a time to meet behind the church and put them in one of the garden spaces. | | | | Small Group Sign-Up Available | | |
For those interested in participating in a small group, there is now a sign-up sheet available in the Folsom room. We are currently offering five groups: Devotions, Movie and Discussion, Exploring Faith Journeys, Nature and Spirituality, and Simple Living. Space is limited, so please only sign up for the group you are most interested in.
The Safety Committee is looking for a few good folks to serve as Safety attendants periodically during worship services. An attendant will greet late comers in the Narthex during worship, be responsible for communicating with the office in the event of a medical emergency or natural disaster, aid in fire and tornado drills, and more. If you would like to assist in this endeavor, please sign up at the following link. | | | | Office Volunteers Needed for Weekly Staff Meetings
Do you have some time available on Tuesdays and are looking for something to do? Would you like to aid your favorite Plymouth Receptionist in making sure that everyone is greeted with a kind and smiling face? Do we have the opportunity for you! Plymouth staff are looking for volunteers to cover for the receptionist during the staff meetings every Tuesday from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. It’s a quiet time for the church, the most you may have to do is answer a phone call or two, maybe complete a small project.
To sign up as a volunteer, speak with Jake in the office or click the button below.
